This is cool!
If you wish you can ( or I can) create a codex page for this module.
Keep up the good work.
thanks for adding it to the http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery2:User_Contributions#Modules page.

Great module. I'm setting up my first Gallery (v2.3RC1) and this is nearly perfect for my basic needs. Is there an ETA for the subscription function? I prefer that it allow Gallery registered users access to the forum but not guests.

Hi All,
With Serban help we released an updated version of the forum module please find it here: https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=223271.
The new release includes various bug fixes and few new features of which:
- post subscription and email notification
- latest post summary on side column
@zepdad60
currently only registered gallery member can post, but the actual forum has no access control.
but thanks for the comment and I will try to include your feature request on our next release.

Is there any quick way to be able to use any other theme instead of only the default one? Or do I need to wait for next release.
A feature request for that was already submitted at sourceforge.

Hi giorgos,
I have no idea of your skills in terms of css and html but:
the very quick way to change the look of the forum is to hack the css (forum.css) that is inside the forum module directory.
the less quick way is to hack the html of the .tpl files that are in forum/templates directory. If you do any changes on the css or templates file you have to back them up when you upgrade the forum or the changes will be lost.
To see what is what on an html page I suggest you use firefox and download the firefox plug-in called firebug, using firebug, among many other things, you can inspect the various elements of the page and see which css declaration is affecting a particular element look, then by changing the css declaration you change how the element is displayed on the page (i.e. change color, width, height etc.)
currently the forum tries to adapt its look on the gallery2 theme in use.
What i can see happening in the near future is probably to make the mark up of the templates files less rigid so that it better adapts to the theme used in the gallery2.
To have a dedicated theming system just for the forum will be really cool but I can't see it happening in the near future.

sciek: Thanks for the quick reply. You are absolutely correct. Only registered users can post. Guests can view only. During my testing I failed to logout but instead was in the guest view mode. What you have now (guest view, no post) is common for most forums and is what I needed. The ability to completely toggle off the forum for guests may be a nice feature for some.
I've upgraded to the new version. The post subscription feature is nice as well as the "auto subscribe all users" toggle. No since confusing users...am I registered in the forum or not? The sidebar view of recent posts is kinda cool but how many posts will it display? 3, 5, last 24 hours? Some limit might be helpful.
Thanks for your hard work. I will be watching the evolution of the forum with great interest.

you have a parameter in the sidebar module that asks for how many posts to be displayed. default is 5.

scieck, thanks for the explanation. Although my skills are very limited I'll give it a try.

From "Site Admin" click the Forum module, in the options check the "Add link in system menu", and press "Save Settings".

1-how can I add a advnace bost box such like the Vb
2- how I can add the permtion for the forum such as I want some forum to be close to sumbit for user and make it open for adminstrator and some other group

About point 2:
that kind of permission granularity is not available yet, but we will keep it into consideration for the next release.
About point 1:
I am not familiar with "Vb" so I don't know what you are asking, also less typos would help.

Are forum posts stored in the database? or in text files?
i want to mean: shall i experience slower and slower browsing as forum grows, lets say 2 or 3 gb?

all is stored in database, you shouldn't experience any slower browsing as your forum grows.

After installing the forum module on my Gallery 2.3 installation and activating it the whole website became inaccesible, with http 500 errors all along. I think this has something to do with the core api parameter. The values of the required coreAPI and module API in the module.inc of the forum module files is by far outdated, I tried to update them, but that did not do the trick. It a bit scaring to experiment with a working site with hundreds of users, so if anyone has an idea on how to update this modules to be usable under gallery 2.3 I would very much appreciate any help on this.

Hi anfri,
just tested forum version 0.1.9 with a clean installation of gallery 2.3 on a Linux box with php version 5.2.6 and it works fine.
I need to reproduce the error to be able to fix it, but I don't have your environment (IIS etc.).
So from here on I am guessing.
According to this line of your error dump:
C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\gallery2\gallery2\modules\core\classes\helpers\GalleryPluginHelper_simple.class at line 94
The error seems to be because the plug-in loader failed to find the module.inc file inside the forum directory,
this could happen because of file permission issues, cache issue, corrupted downloaded module, etc.
So try checking permissions, disable any cache system you have, download a fresh copy of the forum from here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/galleryforum/files/
and try again.
Let me know if you succeed.

Great module. Well done and thanks. I only want registered users to access the forum. It seems anyone can read the forums at this stage. I know only registered users can post.
Do I understand this correctly?
