After making no changes that I can recall and having this gallery running for quite a while with zero problems, I went to upload some new pictures today and got this error:
Processing status...
******Adding IMG_5526.JPG*****
Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /export/home/apache2/htdocs/j0ker/shots/util.php on line 2284
This just started happening this last month and I have no idea why. I am logged in as the gallery admin and trying to add pictures to a new folder. When it scans the pictures it will list them all and create some gallery upload.<somelongstringhere> files for each picture. And then it bombs.
Please help?
Thanks.

Hello Joker,
would it be possible, that you can upgrade to a newer version?

Sure, I can upgrade to the latest version of Gallery 1. Do I only need to tar up my ./albums folder and then untar it after I install?
I guess I am still really confused as to why this would just STOP working. I have seen other people with similar issues, but nobody seems to really understand why it broke in the first place.
Any ideas?
Thanks Jens.

Your albums folder ist not touched. But a backup is always a good idea.
In most cases a change of PHP or change in the filesystem is the reason.
The reason why i would like you to upgrade is, that i dont want to support outdated versions.
If its working in the new version -> hooray.
If not, i will fix it

Would you please point me to a link for the process of upgrading from the older version of Gallery v1 to a newer version of Gallery v1. I am super paranoid about losing years of photos and videos.
Thanks!

I have upgraded to the newest version of Gallery v1, version 1.5.7 and now I am getting this error when trying to post new pictures.
Processing status...
******Adding IMG_5526.JPG*****
Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /export/home/apache2/htdocs/j0ker/shots/util.php on line 1167
I see it dies in the same util.php page but at a different point.
Now that I have upgraded, do you have any idea why I can not post pictures?
Thanks for your help.

Hi,
at this point it becomes difficult for me to say what might be the problem.
Would be possible, that i can have access to your Gallery? Via FTP, or SSH.

Hi,
Jens can you please contact me again. I have tried to send you several emails but have gotten no response. I am still having the problem above and can post no new pictures to my site.
I very much appreciate any assistance you can provide!
Thanks!

This issue is no longer an issue. After looking for help for weeks and getting no where fast, I upgraded (painful on sparc) to Gv2. It is MUCH nicer than Gv1 and I seem to have no issues.
Thanks for any help that was provided but there seems to be no fix known for the issue above.
Tip: Migrate to Gv2!
Thanks to all the gallery developers for making such a great free product!
