"Use Global" Settings?

Using Gallery 2,

When editing an album, I notice that some of the settings pick up their values from a "global" setting. For example the number of rows and columns on the theme tab has a tick box marked "use global".

This begs the question, how can I change the global setting? Basically I want to make all albums follow a master plan for the number of rows and columns. I could;

1) manually do this each time I create a new album
2) have each new album pick up a global setting of my choosing.

Obviously, #2 is the way to go. Any ideas where to make this global setting? Or does it always take on the setting of the root album (in the case of albums within albums)? If I change the "global" setting, does it automatically propagate down to all albums?
