Hi,

I hope you can help me with my problem, I know this is not a Mediawiki-Forum, but maybe you know the problem either. - I also already posted it to a mediawiki, but unsuccessfully.

I also searched the forum database, but I could not find any hint for my problem.

First I have to note I am not that experienced with programming, nevertheless it has never been a problem installing extensions due to the good explanations given.
Unfortunately I am helpless now:

I installed both Mediawiki (Version 1.12.0) and Gallery (2.0.4) successfully. Then I tried to include the Gallery into Mediawiki, using this explanation: http://www.transarte.net/mediawiki/index.php/Gallery2wiki
I already tried the with the newest version, but the error was the same.

I added

Quote:
require_once("extensions/gallery2wiki_extension/gallery2wiki.php");

to the local settings.

I also modified the the settings in the gallery2wiki.setting.php, as said in the explanation (in my case the folder is /wiki/extensions/gallery2wiki_extension)

A file is offered in order to test the correct installation, accessing it gives me the information

Quote:
Warning: g2init(/(adress given by the provider)/gallery2/embed.php) [function.g2init]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /(adress given by the provider)/wiki/extensions/gallery2wiki_extension/classes/gallery2wiki.class.php on line 496

Fatal error: g2init() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/(adress given by the provider)/gallery2/embed.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php') in /(adress given by the provider)/wiki/extensions/gallery2wiki_extension/classes/gallery2wiki.class.php on line 496

When i try to access the main page, I get the message

Quote:
Internal Error

Set $wgShowExceptionDetails = true; at the bottom of LocalSettings.php to show detailed debugging information.

The funny thing about it - there is no such $wgShowExceptionDetails in my LocalSettings.php...

As already said, I just have basic programming knowledge, so the error might be not that hard to detect.

Thank you very much for your effort!

You have:

Quote:
Gallery version ("2.0.4"):

And from the direction is says:

Quote:
it's done now int works with mediawiki 1.10 and gallery 2.2

G2.0.4 is very old and I doubt that you will get assistance for such a old version.

Dave

Hi,

thanks for your answer. I already wrote above I also tried it with gallery 2.2 first. Then I read somewhere there should be problems, so I turned to the older version. Embedding Gallery 2.2 gave me the same error as above.

@Floridave (or others knowledgeable on the Gallery Embedding process)

I am running Gallery 2. along side of MediaWiki (as well as Drupal, Joomla, Wordpress and Zen Cart) ALL, interestingly enough, systems which Gallery purportedly embeds with.

I am attempting to embed Gallery into Media Wiki...Both systems are currently functioning in their standalone capacity.

I am getting errors and attempting to determine where I have misunderstood the sketchy directions. In the process of digging I have discovered that there are dead links in the outdated articles on the subject here on this board, AND I notice that the link over to MediaWiki's "Gallery" page is redirecting back to the description of their "Gallery" object syntax.

I get the impression that there is no established and reliable extension here, BUT I do not want to give up prematurely on something very attractive in principle. I notice that the Gallery site has the MediaWiki logo at the bottom suggesting that they have some version or adaptation of the two running together.

So, the Question/Request is, can you point me (and future readers here) in the direction of CURRENT/WORKING/SUPPORTED extension or other facility with which to establish the embedding application, or is this functionality that I can only get through custom development?

Thank you.

I'm very familiar with GalleryEmbed, but not at all familiar with MediaWiki.(Quite frankly I find the syntax absurd and ridiculous)
These integration projects are the responsibility of their respective owners/authors and not the Gallery team.

MediaWiki runs the docs but are on a separate domain and I don't believe G2 has been integrated.

The error Cheetrunner above is getting could easily be remedied if you are experiencing the same using the extension he refers to.

Thanks for the heads up Sup...I didn't mean to sound like I was complaining or trying to hold anyone's feet to the fire. I think it's great that there is an organized intent to provide an interface for embedding (not sure which syntax you are displeased with--the MediaWiki?) I'm just trying to get oriented and figure out what the current state of things is.

I agree that everyone cannot and will not be an expert on everything. I understand that the Gallery team incorporated the embedding provisions (and the extension scheme in general) precisely so that others could extend their work, and simultaneously increase the knowledgeable user / integrator base.

That said, when I look at the brag points on the app the embedding leaped out so I set about reading the documentation offered in the Codex and on the Forum at large. I found myself hitting secondary links that are dead and I begin to wonder if I am heading down a cold trail...It occurs to me, for instance, given that G3 is already available in various forms, perhaps the developer interest in G2 support is waning--for all I know the whole extension approach may have been changed with the major version number bump.

I did not post here to try and get specific help on my integration of the gallery2wiki extension, merely mentioned that I am running into errors which I assume are due to my configuration errors. The reason I posted was just to see if there were folks successfully using the given extension and to see if there was any sort of official support or better directions than what I have come across to date. It seemed reasonable to assume that if the Gallery team and others who weigh in on the boards have taken the time and energy to bring the embedding feature to life they would also be the ones most likely to know if the approach was successful and could warn me if it was already (or about to be) abandoned. Likewise, like it or not, the Gallery team is most likely aware if they have been deluged with complaints about a given outside provider or product.

Perhaps there was a more appropriate place for me to voice the general question about the current and pending state of the embedding feature. If so, please point me there and forgive my possible misplacement.

Thanks again S

There's no waning at all. The core dev team only has eyes for G3 right now. Dave, suprsidr, alecmeyers and myself still do support for G2, but there is no plans on any other improvements or development on G2.

While G1, G2 and G3 all accomplish nearly the same thing, "Your photos on your website", they are 3 completely different applications that share nothing else in common. So themes, modules, etc from G2 will never work in G3. That functionality has to be rewritten from the ground up.

Cheerunner and yourself are probably the only 2 people who've tried to integrate Gallery into mediawiki, o.k. there might be like 6 other people, maybe. Honestly, if the only documentation you're finding is referring to an ancient version of Gallery for this to work, I'd drop it and look for something else. You could always have your G2 (or G3) install separate and point to your photos from Mediawiki when making posts in it's asinine markup.

As for being "deluged with complaints about a given outside provider or product", you're the first one I've seen in years that's mentioned Mediawiki and Gallery together. Thus, my statement of you being one of a very few number of people who are trying it.
