Getting support

When I first downloaded Gallery 2, the level of support was very good and enabled me to get the site up and running without much effort even though I thought it was beyond me. Now I see that there are a number of pay for service support sites. That would be why it seems that free assistance on the forums is now limited to a few comments.

This is very disappointing given that Gallery2 is a good open source package to begin with. Perhaps it should be taken off Open Source and put out as a commercial site and save people the problems of limited support that I am now finding.

looking at your hostory it seems that that you neglected to answer one post and perhaps have not waited long enough for the other.
If you don't feel that the free software that you have used for some time and are not satisfied with the other users ( the forums are free 'by users for users') that have given support is not satisfactory you are welcome to try other methods of support.

What issue are you having problems where free support has not been satisfactory?

Dave

When it comes to the tech side I am a complete nong. I have had gallery2 working in the past until my webserver decided to move location and seem to have changed some of my settings. In the interim I am trying now to upload 2.2 without any success as I am even unable to get past the first step of opening the install. The instructions are at best vague. I have tried the pre-installer and also tried to download and open the files on my computer and ftp them. Either way has the same result.

Unable to access /var/www/vhosts/amatas.com/httpdocs/gallery2/modules/core/classes/GalleryUtilities.class in /var/www/vhosts/amatas.com/httpdocs/gallery2/install/index.php on line 45

I am being told that it is unable to find a path that for the life of me I cannot find or even find how to create. I have been through the forum and the documentation, nothing is mentioned on GalleriesUtilities.class or this problem. Perhaps I am unique.

The reason I raised this comment was that in the past, I was able to get great assistance from a number of guys on the forum. Now they seem to have all disappeared and as you allude to in your post above, if I can't find the answers I can seek assistance by paid service instead. I can understand that and that comes back to what I opened this thread with but I was looking for an open source application something along the lines of wordpress that is pretty much idiot proof.

My complaint is borne out of frustration I guess that instead of getting easier, it seems it has become infinitely more complicated.

Please open a new thread with your troubles about your host moving stuff about. I have not seen your error before. Please be verbose about what steps you have taken and where you are at now. Are you trying to get a old gallery working or starting over?
