The following information is required to get an answer:
Get this information from the PHP diagnostic (in the configuration wizard).
Gallery URL (optional but very useful):
Gallery version:1.4.3
Apache version:2.2.9
PHP version (don't just say PHP 4, please):5.2.6
Graphics Toolkit:netpbm, imagemagick
Operating system:Fedora 9
Web browser/version (if applicable): Mozilla
I want to upgrade 1.4.3 to 1.5.8
The gallery is located in /var/www/html/gallery directory.
After download of 1.5.8 and untar in the /var/www/html directory I get a directory called gallery-1.5.8
I am stuck with directions which says to overwrite files in old directory and rerun the configuration.
Should I just copy all the files from gallery-1.5.8 to old gallery directory.
Any info is appreciated.

That is correct. Overwrite the files in gallery/ with the files from your newly extracted gallery-1.5.8/ directory.

Hello,
its correct that you get a "gallery-1.5.8" folder.
In the past the folder was just called "gallery" and would immediately overwrite your installation.
So now you can decide what to do.
1.) Rename your current folder to something different and call the 1.5.8 folder "gallery" then just copy the old config.php to your new folder.
or
2.) Copy the content of 1.5.8 into your existing folder.
