I am a complete newbie and started my blog and hosting one week ago, so please be patient and do assume no knowledge.
Using WPG2 3.0.7 plugin with WP 2.6 and Gallery 2.2.5
For testing I did install WPG2 in my so called test wordpress install.
This worked out fine except for validation. The relative path insisted that the wpg2imageblock.tpl should be some directories down from the gallery directory, however the wpg2imageblock.tpl was a few directories down from the wp-content directory which was one directory up from the gallery directory. I was unable to change the relative path.
After this I did install wpg2 in another wordpress installation where the gallery directory is in the same directory as the wp install. Now I do not get any validation or message at all. If I hit the wpg2 tab in the WP dashboard I only get a blank page.
I did make a file .htaccess.php and put it in the same directory where wp is installed. Contents of the file: "[<?php php_value memory_limit 64M ; ?>" (without the ")(I just created this file and called it .htaccess.php and typed the content, no compiling)
In the so called test wp setup there is no .htaccess file.
What is wrong?

martintim,
It is really hard for me to answer this Q as I do not know anything about your server setup.
For me I typically set up Wordpress in a subdirectory (/wordpress) and Gallery2 as a subdirectory (/gallery2) of the main / directory and let WPG2 autovalidate it's self.

Hi ozgreg,
Thanks for your reaction.
In the meantime this problem has been solved. I did a new istall (oneclick install from Dreamhost) of Gallery in exactly the same directory. After this validation worked without a glitch for both setups of WP.
I also realise I have to give more details in the future to get a proper answer. I am learning.
Thanks again.

Been running into blank WPG2 validation page as well as 500 server errors. Reinstall and piecemeal installation of plugins and themes (i.e. Tien is no good for G2...but who knew?) seems to have solved the 500 server errors, but I cannot solve the WPG2 blank validation page for the WP plugin.
(WPG2 Paths tab works fine, but nothing else works due to lack of validation). Server context: host- 1and1.com; WP installed in default (home) level, gallery2 is one level down (same level as wp-content). WP install 2.6.1; WPG2 3.0.7 (other plugins active - WP AutoUpgrade; Cforms; Simple-Forum; Event Calendar & Widget)
Have tried php.ini file suggested by pianoman and the .htaccess fix suggested here.
View of source code on failed page: source ends with: "<div id="wpbody">" not </div>, </body> or </html>
Tell me what else I can supply to help diagnose this. I'm lost, confused, bewildered and frustrated. I've had to unplug WPG2 from another existing site due to same issue. Thanks is advance for any insights or suggestions.

With being a new user and using 1and1 as a host, doing weeks of research to find only 3 online threads regarding this subject and finding no answers, at this point I will ask a favor:
If anyone on a 1and1 hosting account, using Wordpress, Gallery2 and WPG2 and it is working, would you mind taking a moment to share a shot of your configuration information page?
I can't think of anything else it might be, as this is a virgin installation of both Wordpress and Gallery2 with the most recent versions of them, as well as the newest WP2 have been downloaded and installed. Gallery2 appears to work flawlessly as does Wordpress, the only thing wrong is that WPG2 does NOT work.
I keep entering changes to the WPG2 configuration file path configuration page until I get a combination to where the red warning lines complaining of invalid paths no longer appear and it appears my configuration has been accepted. However, at this point a blank page appears and when I attempt to select any of the tools under the left margin WPG2 heading an error pops up saying the tool has not been validated.
Again, after installing my WPG2 plug-in, configuring all the file path settings to where I get no more red-line errors, the page goes blank and there is no option that I can find to "validate" the install. Any help on this would be more than appreciated. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!
Note: I also have the Gallery2 off the main directory /Gallery2 as well as /WordPress installed off the main directory and WPG2 is installed in the plug-ins directory as recommended by the install procedure.

It's hard to think that no one else is having a problem with this. I am going nuts trying everything I can think of only to have nothing at all working. I guess my next step is to find a another gallery application that works well with Wordpress, can anyone suggest a good one to me please? Thanks in advance!

I uninstalled everything and re-installed it so many times I quit counting. I always got the same result. All the values appear to be accepted on the WPG2 configuration page (#2 option in the left WPG2 selection menu of Wordpress) and I assume this because no more errors would display "in red" on that page. However when everything went "right" (no more red-line errors on option #2), the main page (#1 option in the left WPG2 selection menu) shows a blank page. All the other options then under the WP2 option choices on the left menu pane (option #3 +) say the install must be validated in order to use that feature, but there is no page anywhere to select that the installation is to be validated.

I found that I continually received a blank page on the WPG2 tab until I logged out of G2. Once I went to gallery 2, and logged out, I received the validation page content expected

After many hours of research, I got this problem fixed on my lowest tiered 1and1 account. I fixed it by adding the following contents:
AddType x-mapp-php5 .php
to a new file named .htaccess that I added to the wordpress directory.

I am retired and have played with this for many weeks now to get it working. I hope it makes your day brighter.

Another piece of good information in debugging Gallery2 WordPress and WPG2 is to know where you are before you ask directions. I see a lot of people advising others to change things, especially values for PHP storage as a potential solution. I went down that path and found later I was actually cutting my allocated storage by 90% by following the advise. Changing to the lower value lead to different problems which left me totally off track. It is not that I didn't appreciate the advise as that advise is the solution for some with very low storage allocated, I am just saying to check where you are before you head out in a direction.
The easiest way to find what you have PHP wise is to look around online and find a file called phpinfo.php and upload that somewhere on your website. Then go to the URL and see how much memory you have been allocated before maybe changing it to lower than you already have by default. Also you can see the version and all the default settings of PHP on your host account before you go down a bad path of changing something that does not need to be changed.
That's it, my own paragraph to add to the dummy guide for other dummies like me out there

The AddType x-mapp-php5 .php trick just sorted this out for me on my 1and1 account.
Thanks very much for the help!

Hi, I'm trying to install on a localhost (xampp) and getting the blank validation page.
I've downloaded/installed wp 2.9.2 and wpg2 3.0.7
I've tried to create .htaccess.php as mentioned in this and other threads - i've re-installed gallery2 no success, if I go directly to the url /gallery2/main.php again I get a completely blank page.
Can anyone offer any advice?

.htaccess.php is an invalid file name. Where did that name come from? You should install the file ".htaccess" and customize it as needed. *IX base systems can have files starting with dot (.) not like windows. Maybe that was a typo.

Mmmm he said with enlightenment!
For some reason when I initially crated the .htaccess file as '.htaccess' it kept getting rejected (in dreamweaver). I noticed in another thread it was referred to as .htaccess.php and when I tried this additional extension and dreamweaver accepted it.
Anyway following your comment, this morning I put it back to just .htaccess and hey presto dreamweaver didn't reject it and when I open my site admin I can see all the settings for the wpg2 in the menu. Hooray!
Thanks you.
