I was surprised to find no info about how to import / transfer / copy from an existing g2 to another g2, is there any info about that?

Why i want to do so?
I plan to migrate my whole website http://kanuschule.ch/ from windows to linux hosting.
The hardest part will be the gallery i guess, so i try to copy it to a test-hosting.
I installed the newest gallery there, and now i want to populate it with the content from the old gallery, no need to keep the url's.

I Mainly migrate because i can't get short url's for my g2 in windows hosting, and a SEO analysis of my site strongly recommends to have better url's for my albums, so i setup my test installation with short and permanent urls.

I have the same question. Mine is a matter of moving several albums and sub-albums to a new gallery
on the same machine. How does one accomplish this?

i did not find that faq entry because i was googling after "import".
i'd suggest to add import to that faq title:

How can I export / imoprt data from one G2 to another G2 installation?

sirtet, The docs are for the users by the users so feel free to fix any thing that you find in the future yourself, so others can benefit in the future.
