I would like to have some images show up in more than one album, and I don't want to have to upload these images over and over. I know that in the past I have used "Link Item" to do this. Now "Link Item" is a tab in the "Add Items" page, and it will only allow me to link an album to another album. I believe I used to find "Link Item" in the drop-down menu under each image, but I wouldn't swear to it.
I am not the administrator of the gallery, but I will pass along anything that is relevant. Here is information that may be useful.

That functionality was moved into a new plugin called Replica:
http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery2:Modules:replica
Install that and you should have everything you need.
