Slideshow 2.0 - download resized images?

Is there anyway to run Slideshow 2.0 with re-sized images vs. the original? Even with broadband access, some of the images take too long to download. I don't want to disable access to the original images; it's important to me to have these available for users.

Thanks in advance for any advice/assistance.

at this point, only if you change the view permissions removing "view full size" permissions from your users.

Thanks for the quick response, valiant.

This did create one really weird thing for one of my albums. Certain pictures in the slideshow are being rendered at the thumbnail size (?!?!). I'm rebuilding the photo sizes and thumbnails, but I don't think I'm on the right track.

Ever bump into this before?

Note: this problem appears regardless of whether I'm on the site as the admin or guest

Hmmmm.... oddly enough... I think it's working for the Admin login OK, but not for guests. Guest users start to see thumbnails with the 3rd slide.

I think I'm onto something here. It appears that if I've changed the title of the image to something different than the photo's original name, the guest sees a thumbnail image. Hmmm.... is there something in the permissions that has to do with titles?

Also it appears that slideshow 2.0 won't go show more than 25 images in an album (?). Running the slideshow in any photo album I have with more than 25 images just shows "Image x of 25".

My head is spinning. ; )

Slideshow 2.0 as in Piclens? I'm sending you a link via PM. That album has 53 images in it, let me know if all 53 show up for you. They do for me.

Nivekiam -- I've turned of Piclens and am using the javascript (lytebox) slideshow v2.0 (according to my plugin page). I followed your link, and all the pictures came up just fine.

I turned Piclens on for a bit, and found that the photos that have been showing up as thumbnails were stretched (highly pixelated)

Just curious -- did you try the link in my post above. If so, did it work for you? Just want to make sure I don't have some kind of weird local caching or cookies thing going on...

(thanks for your help)

sigh... now this album is displaying larger images (no thumbnails mixed in), but others are not. See what I mean:

http://www.mortonplace.net/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=slideshow.Slideshow&g2_itemId=5276

Totally confused. Going to walk away from this for a couple of hours before I go nuts.

When I follow that link, I only see the thumbnail in the slideshow, but when I go to your gallery and view an album I see the big images in the slideshow.

I think I've worked out a method for fixing the problem with the thumbnail images showing up in the slideshow. It's a mix of re-creating the re-sized images, clearing/re-setting permissions, and then flushing cached pages/templates. I'm not sure why it works, or which part fixes it... but I think it does the job. I've had success on two albums and will do more as time permits.

I still can't figure out why the slideshow will only show 25 images. That one has me TOTALLY stumped. (!?!?)

I'm having the same problem on a new install on Gallery 2. When I am logged in, admin & guest slideshows work perfectly. But, when I log out or anyone who isn't logged in views the slideshow, they mostly get blown up thumbnails. I've tried all the tactics mentioned here and on http://gallery.menalto.com/node/84387, but nothing has worked consistently so far. I had thought deleting the slideshow app, redownloading it, and reactivating it worked, but it only worked once, and when I double checked the entire gallery, it was only for the first 50 or so images. After that, it was all blown up thumbs again. I tried it a second time, and now everything is a thumbnail again. However, real guests (not the pretend admin "guest") can view all of the resized versions of the images just fine, and viewing them does not change anything in the slideshow.

*Edit* Just to clarify. When I am logged in as my admin user, which is really the only log-in right now, and I view a slideshow, it works. When I view as a guest, and I click "view slideshow," it works like intended. When I log out, or when I open a different browser type to test it, or when anyone else goes to the website without logging in, and "view slideshow" is clicked, it shows blown up thumbnails. If I mess around with things, I sometimes can get several images to show up correctly, but not all of them. The resized images do not need to be built because I have already viewed the entire slideshow when logged in as an admin and pretending to be a guest. The images are there, but for some reason, actual guests don't see them.

Have you installed suprsidr's upgrade to the slideshow? http://www.flashyourweb.com/filemgmt/index.php?id=21

If you do, then you can go to Site Admin > Slideshow and specify a few settings.

Can you post a link to your site and post screenshots of the permissions page for one of your albums?

Actually, yes, I have installed that version. I've tried that version & going back to the version I can install from the interface. (gone back & forth quite a bit, actually) I've currently got 1600x1600 set as the target size, and 3 seconds as the delay.
http://www.herringimages.com/gallerytest/v/Clients/MingsWedding is the only gallery uploaded right now.

o.k. Looks like you actually have suprsidr's version currently installed. Go to Site Admin > Slideshow and post a screenshot of that page.

Try a smaller size, like 1200 or 768 for the slideshow image size

I just tried editing the Site Admin > Slideshow Target Size to both 1024x1024 (a resize already available) and 1200x1200 (a resize not actually available). Neither did the trick. It's still set to 1200x1200 right now.

Yes, see his screenshot he posted above: http://gallery.menalto.com/node/82592#comment-312440

Just looking at his site again. It appears the RSS feed is only grabbing the thumbnail size and not the largest resize availalbe.

It's even doing this on his home page: http://www.herringimages.com/gallerytest/main.php I'm getting pretty stuck on this.

Wabin, can you check your file integrity?
FAQ: How can I make sure that my installation files are all intact?

Are there any modified files?

Try resetting privileges to Everybody [core] View all versions
Even if you have to remove the group perm and re-add it.
And make sure you are applying yo all sub-items
This is only the second instance of this issue, not sure of the cause.

I reinstalled the fluid theme using the built in interface, and the missing files went away. Then, I reinstalled it manually, and now I have fluid themed modified files. lol But, that's off topic.

Allowing everybody to see the original files seemed to fix the problem. However, this is not a good permanent solution since I don't want anyone but admins to see the original files.

Just to recheck, I removed the permission Everybody view all versions, readded only View items and View Resized. The slideshow blew up thumbnails again. Then, I added back Everybody View originals (which changed it to Everybody View all versions), and it worked again. In the http://www.herringimages.com/gallerytest/v/Clients/MingsWedding (which should be /v/Affinito. Off topic again, but maybe relevant), I've set it so that Everybody can view originals. In http://herringimages.com/gallerytest/v/katmai_bears/, I have it set so Everybody can only View Item and View resized version(s). The slideshow does not work properly in that gallery.

On another note, I disabled the RSS feeds plug in. I'm curious how you managed to view the RSS feed. Is the page still there, just not the link?

@Wabin I believe I fixed that, if you could test it out for me please.
The only file to change is gallery2/modules/slideshow/classes/SlideshowHelper.class

I went ahead and reuploaded the whole thing (cause I'm too lazy to look through all the files for the right one), and I think you fixed it. :) Thanks! http://herringimages.com/gallerytest/v/katmai_bears/ slideshow is working correctly now.

hm.... wait. I think maybe it's showing a smaller version of the images on the horizontal pictures because they don't seem as clear as the vertical ones. (ie the vertical images seem to be the proper 1600 images, but the horizontal ones seem to be the 1024 version or the 800 versions)

Ah, nvm. I found the problem. It was left over from our previous testing when I had set the Slideshow settings to 1200x1200. I reset it back up to 1600x1600 and it worked properly. Thanks again, and sorry for the extra trouble.

How did you know the link for http://herringimages.com/gallerytest/main.php?g2_view=slideshow.SlideshowMediaRss&g2_itemId=726? I can't figure out the item ID for other albums.

every item in gallery has an id be it an album, photo, movie, user.....
Gallery urls usually contain the items id, but with rewrite enabled you won't see it.
Try editing the album and looking in the resulting url. Or look to the page source code for the <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="Photo RSS" href="index.php?g2_view=slideshow.SlideshowMediaRss&amp;g2_itemId=32&amp;g2_offset=0"/>
