First of all I have to say - Gallery RaWKs~!!
I have an instance where I would like to make a public upload account, and would like to make the permissions on that account such that would not allow the users to change the password.
Of options to add, it would be nice to have an option in [user setup] to make [prefrences] available [on - off] to the user.
Other than that, I have to tell you that "GALLERY TEAM - YOU ARE AWESOME! I have not shut up about Gallery to friends for days now, and found myself tonight at the market telling people how awesome it is.
I have even put up an offer up on my site of "FREE Gallery Accounts" with a dontation to the gallery team! This is my first post to any fourm of any kind about anything ~ But I would have posted just to tell you guys how really great your hard work is. The chemistry involved in this Gallery Team has magic.

Nice idea, but there are already a couple of hacks around this issue in the customization forum.
Personally, I just remove the write permissions from the specific user files in albums/.users This way they will still be able to see the preferences window, but they can't change anything (and it'll drive them crazy if they keep trying ;)).

Thanks~! I will look in the customization forum for this. I need this user account to be able to upload photos, which would mean write permission is needed. Being a public/account i would like anybody to upload images, but not change the public/account password at least~! :o

Removing write permissions from the user files in albums/.users only involves the user settings, like username, e-mail, full name and password. Users will still be able to upload photos.
Unless I'm wrong of course. Why don't you just try it out?
