I am trying to get my theme to match the rest of my website but i'm stuck on how to do it. I have very limited html skills . i love the gallery but i would like it all to blend with the rest of my site.
i want the rest of the page to be black, and have the red writing. maybe even the same font style
can anyone help?

First. You want to read what it says at the top of the template file you are editing
You put you customized version not in:
/gallery/themes/matrix/templates/theme.tpl
but in:
/gallery/themes/matrix/templates/local/theme.tpl
Next you have your customizations above the </head> tag.
You have to have some knowledge of HTML to get good results.
Next I would install the colorpack module. then give your matrix theme the black colorpack.

how did you build the rest of your site?
just use the header and footer of your site and paste that in to the template you want to use.

then if you want to change colors:
1. use a colorpack
2. edit the css using a few tools to help:
