can't get mod_rewrite to configure...

I can't get mod_rewrite to work. I have browsed around the forums and tried a few things that helped others but I still can't get it to configure in the plugins page. `httpd -M` gives me "rewrite_module (shared)" and I have the following in httpd.conf:

<Directory "/usr/local/www/gallery2">
AllowOverride Options FileInfo
Allow from all
</Directory>

I continue to get 404 when trying to configure mod_rewrite in the site admin portion. Does anyone have more pointers that might help?

Gallery version (not just "2"): gallery2-2.3
PHP version (e.g. 5.1.6): php5-5.2.6_2
Webserver (e.g. Apache 1.3.33): apache-2.2.9_5
Database (e.g. MySql 5.0.32): mysql-server-5.0.67_1
Operating system (e.g. Linux): FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE-p6
