Tonight I went to use Gallery Remote for the first time since applying the latest Java patch from Apple. When I try and launch it, it fails immediately. Here is the error information that is logged to the console:

Last login: Tue Dec 23 11:34:54 on console
/Applications/Gallery\ Remote.app/Contents/MacOS/JavaApplicationStub ; exit;
XXXXX:~ XXXXXXXX$ /Applications/Gallery\ Remote.app/Contents/MacOS/JavaApplicationStub ; exit;
[JavaAppLauncher] application launched with ppc-thin application stub. Using native application stub instead.
[JavaAppLauncher Error] failed to use native application stub directly, trying to fork first.

I was out of date on my Gallery Remote 1.5 patch so I downloaded the latest, from Nov 24th I believe, and it did not help.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Anyone else having issues on MacOS 10.5.6 with all the latest patches?

Does the WebStart version work? You can launch it from your Gallery installation, in the Add Items page, Gallery Remote tab.

When I go there I just get the link to the download page for Gallery Remote:

Gallery Remote is a Java application that runs on your desktop computer and provides a rich interface to Gallery. With Gallery Remote you can drag and drop to photos to upload them to Gallery, rotate and resize your images before uploading, and even view the photos in your Gallery in a slideshow on your desktop computer. You must install Gallery Remote 1.4 or newer to use it with this version of Gallery.

You must be using Gallery 2.2 or earlier. If you update to 2.3, you'll get the WebStart version too.

I upgraded to 2.3 and tried, but no dice. On firefox I couldn't even get it to process it, all it does is open a php file, main.php. When I tried in Safari it saw it as main.php.jnlp and tried to launch it but it fails and the Mac console shows a Java Web Start Error saying it's Unable to load resource: http://........../gallery/modules/remote/applets/GalleryRemote.jar

So it looks like I got it fixed. I noticed problems with another java app and I noticed that my Mac kept thinking the latest java update was not installed. I ended up completely reloading the OS (since java is embedded in MacOS) and re-applying all updates and now all is well. Sorry for the false alarm.
