HELP! Custom wpg2header.php and wpgfooter.php aren't picked up, can't run php commands in inline output

For some reason, wpg2 doesn't like the wpgheader.php and wpgfooter.php files I created. The plugin detects them and claims it is using them, but alas, none of the included bits show up.

So no problem, I thought I'd use the inline WPG2 output page to add the things I wanted to the header/footer/. That works great, but the wordpress php tag I wanted to put in the footer to create a login box doesn't work.

I just need to create a wordpress login box there because there's nowhere else on my site that users can log in to wordpress (the admin just goes in thru wp-admin)

I really appreciate anyone's help with this... it's a bummer indeed.
