Date stamp resriction

I just upgraded to version 1.5.10 of Gallery embedded within PhpNuke. The issue I have now is that when I try to set the "Photo Capture Date" to a date before 1969 I get the following error message.

"Year must be between 1969 and 2070."

This seems illogically restrictive and I'm hoping that there is an option to disable it.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Regards
SB

Thanks for the reply Jens. Do you think you could elaborate a little bit please?

Sure.

We store the capture date as Unix timestamp.
The smallest value is 0.
And thats 01.01.1970

Ok. This is a real problem as the majority of the images I have on my gallery are from before 1970. The existing images I have that predate the upgrade are still fine, I just have the issue when I try to add new images or edit ones with the problematic date stamp.

Is there a work around that I can use, perhaps I can manually edit the entry on the backend after I upload it?

Would you suggest an upgrade to Gallery version 2 as a solution?
