adding micro navigation thumbnails to modified classic theme

Hi -

I've modified the "Classic" theme to fit within the design of the site. Is it possible to add micro navigation thumbnails to that theme? Or is it easier for me to take the Carbon theme and modify it to match my site? Does the "Slideshow" work with the Carbon theme? When I tried the slideshow in the demo it told me "The action you attempted is not permitted".
