Why was Poll dropped from Gallery2?

I've been using Gallery1 on my site for some time and found that the Poll system was ideal for the competitions I wanted to run, using the Rank settings to set it to have 1st/2nd/3rd for each image and each user to have no more than 3 votes. I'm in the process of migrating to Gallery2 and have now discovered that this has been dropped - none of my existing polls have been migrated across, and there's no option to set this on albums either.

I've looked at the Rating module and it's entirely different, and from searches in the forum it appears that there is nothing else remotely similar. Am I wrong, and have I just missed something somewhere, or was this incredibly useful feature dropped for Gallery2? Has someone created a Poll/Rank module that replicates the G1 Poll system and I just can't find it? This feature will be sorely missed, especially as I have another competition coming up shortly. If there really is nothing currently available I guess I'll have to try and figure out the G2 API and write my own, but that will put my migration back quite a bit
