Mobile themes?

With the increasing rise of netbooks, smartphones, and other small screen and touch-based interfaces, has anyone looked into creating mobile-specific themes for G3?

Availability of a mobile-friendly theme for viewing gallery albums would be great -- right now browsing a Gallery album is very cumbersome on my T-Mobile G1, whereas sites like flickr and picasa make mobile browsing easy.

I know Gallery is not meant as a flickr / picasa "competitor" but the fact is, if I want to share some of my photos from my gallery on my phone, it's not a pleasant browsing experience. Perhaps a more mobile-friendly theme + slideshow would be a good way to go here.

I agree with this. I have a blackberry pearl with T-Mobile and would love to be able to upload new stuff I take from the it.

Our main UI developer has been making G3 look good on the iPhone. We should definitely be able to make a mobile friendly theme and allow you to choose that when the user is on a mobile platform. Probably not in 3.0, more like 3.1.

Will it work for other phones or just the iphone? There are more then a few websites who discriminate / lockout non iphone mobile browsers.

What's latest news? I really want to use my Nokia 5800 / Nokia N95 to upload to my gallery.

You're looking at the latest news. All work is currently being focused on just getting a quality, working product out the door. If you read Bharat's comment, we're probably not going to even look at developing a mobile theme until 3.1. Unless someone in the community wants to do that
