Wordpress fails if gallery is down.

This seems like a very serious issue to me. It just took me about 3 hours to figure out how to fix it and I still have no clue what the problem was.

Here is what happened.

Somehow (this part is rather magical) apache got his read permissions from the gallery config.php taken away.
Visiting the gallery page therefore resulted in a redirect to the installation page.

Now visiting the blog just put out a couple of headers. No errors in the apache logs or anywhere.
I don't think it should fail so silently and terrible.
