What alternatives are there to Gallery?

I'm in the process of looking up ways to manage and organise images online, right now Gallery seems like the best but I like looking at all possibilities.

I thought the best place to ask about alternatives would be here since I know I'm going to get honest and unbiased opinions ;)

Ones that I know of:

You host:
Coppermine

You can call me biased if you want with me being a Gallery user for years and on the support team, but this is an unbiased opinion. I personally don't like the way Coppermine works, I don't like the programming and I don't like the support. That's my personal, honest, opinion. I know others use it and like it. I know people have jumped from Gallery to Coppermine and vice versa.

Gallery 3

If you are patient and can wait a little while for Gallery 3 to be completed, I don't think there will be any solution out there that even remotely compares to Gallery if you are looking to host something yourself. Yes, that's also my unbiased opinion. I like dead, truthful honesty. I like G1 and G2. To me G1 is similar to Coppermine in terms of how it's put together on the backend. G2 was a major improvement, but made overly complex. The dev team has learned from their past and G3 is going to frickin' ROCK!

Smugmug

I know there are dozens of other pay sites for photography pros. All that I've looked at take most of the control out of your hands. I like having 100% complete control over my stuff, so I use a solution I host on my site, like Gallery.

Unrequested advice (stop reading if you want to)
If you need a host, you get what you pay for. Look for a host who owns their own servers and data center. Yes, that blows the small time "hosts" out of the running who either rent servers or have servers they've paid for and configured in rented space in a big data center like The Planet or some such place. You pay more for a host who controls everything, but you typically get better service because they control ALL aspects of their business. If you're just renting space in a data center, you control very little of your world.

And yes, in the future you may find that I'm a hypocrite in this area as I'm contemplating switching to someone who owns, manages and controls their own servers, but in a data center that they pay to have their servers hosted in. It's because I "know" that person and what they do for a day job and know they can manage their own servers.

I give the advice above because I've helped too many people and also been the person who has been burned by some know-nothing moron who just pushes a couple buttons in cPanel and is magically now a webhost, renting servers or owning servers in rented space in a datacenter. Those people know almost nothing about the hardware or software they are running and nothing about the network they are setup on, routing, power systems, etc.

Pair, www.pair.com is the only host I'll recommend to anyone anymore if you're looking for a host.

Man wikipedia just about has everything.

Forgot about 4images. Other than that, I haven't heard of any of the others on the list, other than Gallery or Coppermine of course.
