Hi, everyone! :)

My client is using Gallery 2.2.5 and now wants to accept photo orders in his shopping cart. He prints out all photo orders himself as his is a professional photographer.

He wants clients to be able to select which photos they wish to purchase, pay for them and their order is then emailed over to him for printing. He is a long time user of Gallery and previously used Gallery Cart.

Is there another cart he can use with his version of Gallery 2.2.5?
He only has Photokasten which he does not want to use.
Is Zen Cart compatible?

MySQL version: 5.0.45
Platform Type: Debian
Perl Version: 5.8.8
PHP Version: 5.2.5
Windows XP, Dreamweaver & Photoshop
Site: http://www.thefamilytreee.ca/Gallery6

If I forgot to include any info, I am sorry.

The checkout module series should be ok.

He really ought to upgrade his gallery though.

Thank you, alecmyers. Where do I see these Checkout Modules? No option seen for this?

Gee, thank you so much for that! I wonder why it was never offered as an option when Gallery 2.2.5 was initially installed? Sure could have saved a lot of brain power! :)

Could you tell me if Gallery2:Modules:checkout is specific for a certain theme in Gallery 2.2.5? My client's site is running the Matrix theme. I am wondering if he should be using another theme in order for checkout to be seen?

I know before I attempt to 'activate' Checkout I do need to backup his Gallery first. Either way I will have to before I change the entire theme of his Gallery. He has already added 6 albums of photos to Gallery.

Checkout isn't theme dependent (as a rule, no modules are). You may want to edit the templates once you've seen how it looks with your existing template and css though. But since Matrix theme is the default, I know it's ok with that (plus/minus personal preferences.)

Also, far be it from me to dissuade anyone from backing up a Gallery - follow the instructions in the codex, or you'll find you haven't backed up the right things - but installing a new module like Checkout isn't on the "risky" list.

Because it's an "unofficial" module written and supported by the "community" and not by the team of Gallery developers.

I do not see the Checkout option available at all? and am trying to figure out why? The only thing I could think of was that it was theme related. Now that you've said it is not, I need to look at what else could be canceling the Checkout option from his Gallery. Thank you, alecmyers. :D I didn't realize you were one of the contributors for Checkout until I saw the list of contributor names. I want so badly to have Checkout available 'cause it does exactly what the client was asking for! :)

You should follow alecmyers advice and upgrade.

They are in fact - downloadable plugins were introduced with G2.1 I think.

@Magician742: make sure to read and follow the instructions correctly, particularly the part that says: "Checkout is in the community repository, so you should make sure to activate the community plugins box before updating the available plugins list."

ok, can either of you tell me which one of these headings I can find the community repository to activate the community plugins box before updating the available plugins list?

When logged in the Administration area and I see

Under General: Captcha, General, Groups, Maintenance, Members, Performance, Permalinks, Plugins, Quotas, Registration, Themes, User Albums, Users
Under 'Graphics Toolkits': Gd, ImageMagick, Toolkit Priority
Under Authentication: HTTP Auth
Under Display: Dynamic Albums, Icons, Keyword Albums, Link Items, New Items, Panorama, Random Highlight, Slideshow Applet, Square Thumbnails, Thumbnails, Watermarks
Under Export: Google Sitemap, RSS
Under Extra Data: Comments, Custom Fields, EXIF/IPTC, Getid3, MIME Types, MultiLanguage, Rating
Under Import: Archive, Gallery 1, Picasa 2, Upload Applet, Web/Server, WebCam
Under Remote Interfaces: Remote, WebDAV

Among all the downloadable plugins there is NONE for Checkout or any of its components. In the Commerce section these are available: Digibug , eCard , Fotokasten, PhotoWorks, Shutterfly , Zip Download and Cart which I've already deactivated in preparation for Checkout.

If you could point me in the direction for the community plugins box so I can begin to update the available plugins list, it would be super.

If I had to upgrade Gallery again (just was installed 2 mths ago when the client's web host totally buggered up an upgrade and lost 15,000 photos) is there an easy way of doing it?

Thank you both.

It's probably worth spending some time getting familiar with the codex site, the forum etc - learning your way around will save you a lot of time asking questions and waiting for answers when you can get the info yourself...

This might help with installing modules:

k, thank you. Sorry for troubling you. Wish I was more familar with the codex (this is the first I've heard of it). I have initiated a backup of Gallery 2.2.5 by his web host. Once it is complete, I will install a higher version of Gallery in the hopes it will have the Checkout plugin with it.

I honestly don't know why this Gallery (2.2.5) did not have it. Bad luck, I guess.

You have yourself a truly grand day, alecmyers. I am a corporate accountant by trade, a bit out of my league with Gallery stuff. :)

Watch the video in the link I gave you. I already explained why *no* version of Gallery - past, present, or future - "comes with" checkout. If you upgrade, you *still* won't have checkout until you follow a procedure like the one in the video I linked to above.

:) :) :) :) :)

I see Checkout and all of its components now! Oh my goodness, I can't believe it! So very close to having his site working how he wants it. I can never ever thank you enough for your help, alecmyers. 'twas a true pleasure! Sending Sunshine smiles your way!

Ok, so now I have run into another problem. The cart is now een but it doesn't allow users to put anything into it.
Where do I find the '[checkout] purchase albums and the '[checkout] purchase items'?

It's all detailed in the module's codex page.

ok, so how what is the codex page's actual url? You provided the one which shows the basics of setting up gallery 2.
Is there one specifically for just the shopping cart itself?

I've gone over the Codex and added what was necessary. What I don't understand is when I log out of the client's site and then 'pretend' I want to buy a picture, reload the page, there is no option to purchase shown. It also says 'Group already has this permission (check sub-permissions)'. It does not say 'add to cart' or anything. But says this when clicking on the cart shown in the upper right: Checkout Step 1 - Adjust products and quantities

Remove items or adjust quantities here, then continue on to confirm your order. Where did I go wrong?

The cart is finally working. I had to create a new album, reset the permissions for it. Then everything worked to perfection.
Funny, I vaguely remember reading somewhere something about deleting and then reinstalling a module for it to take effect.

Cheers, alecmyers.

I've not heard of such a thing, in 18 months of working with checkout...

I'd just like to know how on earth sales taxes can be added to the cart? The cart admin section is quite simple but doesn't seen to have visible option for taxes. Perhaps its NOT available. Is it? Thank you.

No, checkout doesn't support sales tax.

If as a cart it does not handle taxes should we move away from Gallery 2.3 and go with another option?

Very puzzling.

I don't think anyone here can tell you what you should do. It's entirely up to you!

Are there any other Checkout programs which could be installed which will be able to handle taxes?
Thanks 4 all help.

How about the ZenCart idea, that you started the thread with? Maybe that has taxes? I don't know, I've never tried it.

ok, I did some more snooping specifically in this area: /public_html/Gallery6/modules/checkout/templates because all the changes needing to be made are in the customer's checkout area.

Basically changing the wording of the lines when a customer is checking out.

Adding a couple of new ones and removing a couple unneeded ones.

We are sticking with Gallery 2.3.2. Thank you once again. :)
