Hi,
I had a gallery site that fatally crashed, and I am migrating to a new service provider. The old site did daily off-site database and image directory backups so I have all of that.
The old, dead site ran gallery 2.2.4. The new site (dreamhost) has 2.3 installed.
Question: is there a way to migrate this slightly-old data into the 2.3 software? I've found nothing on the forums or FAQ that deal with cross-version migration.
Secondary question: how do I preserve data in a way that I can be assured of not losing it? Is there a way to "dump" the gallery in a version-independent way expressly for this purpose? I dont' care about file size or speed, I don't want data loss.

Sorry, I forgot this.
Can I download version 2.2.4, restore my files into that, then upgrade to 2.3, dump that DB and files, and migrate THAT into a 2.3 system?
In other words, what IS crash-recovery for gallery2?

I would get your site running some where first, if you need an old version you can look at the history of the downloads page:
http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php?title=Gallery2:Download&oldid=16766
Then you can do an upgrade once everything is successfully back up.
If you have the database and g2data, then you need to use the same version of Gallery those were using. So install the version you were using, get everything running, then you can upgrade:
