When I try to run the delete database cache in the maintenance mode, I get a seemingly succesful operation:

Last Run Details:

Successfully deleted directory: /var/hosting/web/xespok.net/website/www/arthropodapics_1969/g2data/cache/entity
Successfully deleted directory: /var/hosting/web/xespok.net/website/www/arthropodapics_1969/g2data/cache/theme
Successfully deleted directory: /var/hosting/web/xespok.net/website/www/arthropodapics_1969/g2data/cache/module

However, these files do not get deleted and stay on the server ? Is this not wierd?

Is there anything inside those directories?

Yes, there is a complex tree structure of folders 0-9 , each of them contains .dat files.

Just testing on my install.

Those actual directories are not deleted but the contents, well most of them, are, or should be. I see a couple directories and a couple files recreated right away under entity/0/0/ on my system. theme/ is empty. But some files create recreated right away under module also. Probably because the page reloads and has to make database calls.

The folder contents stay in their respective locations in my case. I think nothing is deleted at all in my case from any directories.

Show me examples. Do a list of the directories. If you're not seeing errors I doubt they are not being deleted.

You could also try putting gallery into debug mode and clearing the database cache again:
FAQ: How to set/use Gallery in debug mode?

I try to do it tomorrow. Is there an easy way to create a list of directories? I do no not have shell access.
