Relevant user album notifications

Hi, I'm new to the forums (and have been using gallery on and off for a few years at a very superficial level).

I had a question about some features I'm looking for. Anyone familiar with facebook knows about tagging and email notifications. I'm not all that concerned about area tagging, rather that the relevant people are notified about a new item (album or image) or action on a watched item (I know the latter can be found in a module).

I guess one other cool thing might be syncing with google contacts and notifying by that as opposed to having a set user database (although this might step on a ton of license restrictions or whatever).

My apologies if this has been covered elsewhere (faq or forum) but i'm not familiar with a lot of the jargon being tossed around which makes finding what I'm looking for kind of difficult. Any help here would be kindly appreciated.

There is always RSS so subscribers will be notified.

AND there is an area tagging module somewhere in these forums.

Doesn't that report every little detail about what's happening in your setup? Is there anything that delivers user-specific content kinda like how you're notified when someone posts a picture of you in fb?

RSS can be album specific, including useralbums.

But there is also http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery2:Modules:notification
but I've never used it.
