Buttons for system links

I'm trying to add buttons / images for the system links, register and login. In theme.tpl I found this

<div class="gbSystemLinks">
{g->block type="core.SystemLinks"
order="core.SiteAdmin core.YourAccount core.Login core.Logout"
othersAt=4}
</div>

But I'm not able to change the look of the link.
