Is it possible to upgrade from Gallery 1 to Gallery 3?

I know this sounds like a stupid question, but I have gallery 1.4.2-pl2 and now want to upgrade to G3. Is it possible? Anybody has done it before?

Two ways to go about this.
1, migrate to G2.3 then import the G2 data.
2, Use the server add method to import G1 items. You will loose all the meta data title, descriptions, comments etc..
