I have a question about the current G3 installation tutorial here: http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery3:Tutorials:Installation It is possible that these instructions are for installing it locally? If so, can that note be made at the top of the page or in the title? B/c I just put G3 on a remote server and didn't have to do any of those steps. Can a new page be added in the documentation about putting it on the remote server? What is the normal way to add or comment on the documentation? I'm sure it's documented somewhere... Becky |

Your welcome to create it. Once you are logged in, there should be an edit tab at thetop of the page.

Yes, that tutorial was made a long time ago, long before there was an installer for G3 and things were even polished. Looking at it, I'm not sure I'd salvage any part of it personally. It needs a complete re-write.
As for installation documentation, you've found it Right now there's also the README in your gallery3 directory, but I believe that's about it. We're just starting to get started on documentation

oh and just found this "Quick Start" http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery3:Quick_Start
It's not very detailed, but it may help

I don't know if this belongs in this thread, but I got a few more questions ...
When I'm on the documentation page I'm not seeing the "edit" tab. Maybe, I don't have sufficient privileges? I see "page","discussion", "history", etc. But not edit.
Also, what is the difference bwtn the "Development" and "Documentation" sections of the site?
Thx,
Becky

I did see that, thank you. And I never needed/knew how to follow the parts about
"cd gallery3
mkdir var
chmod 777 var"
I couldn't quite remember how to unzip on the server, so I FTP'd the whole thing! lol.
so I bailed on those instructions. I'm too low tech of a user. I need the ridiculous level of detail that has been done on the older versions. (great job everyone who did that!)

To create or edit pages on the wiki, you need to create an account there, it's separate from your forum login here.
http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php?title=Special:UserLogin
Just click the Create Account link
But the documentation for G3 should be in a pretty state by the time it's officially released.
