Question about gallery's tracker

Hi everybody.

I need a little help on the use of the trackers.

First of all I'm not sure whether we should use the Sourceforge tracker or the Gallery's "feature vote". What's the difference ? Is one of them obsolete ? Or is it the same and the sfvote page is just a frontend to the sourceforge page ?

I guess the second option is more likely to be true, considering that the entries link to sourceforge.

I didn't find any description neither on the wiki or on the website. Maybe I missed something ?

Also, I don't understand why this entry is closed while this entry is open. Isn't it the same ? Why isn't it tagged as duplicate ?

----------
By the way, did I say that gallery is awesome ? I'm using it for weeks, and I really enjoy it. Even if it's not always easy to set up, to personalize, the installation is awesomely easy and even someone with very few knowledge can use it.

Congrats to all contributors, and thank you for all.

That feature vote may be used again, but right now it's primarily for G2 and G2 development is done. All major development is on G3 right now. This is what's being used for G3 right now: http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/gallery/

One is for G1 and one is for G2, two completely different products. Neither of which are being progressed any further. G2 is done and G1 is moving ahead as a new project, www.jallery.com

Thank you for your answer.

So if I understand correctly, the two tracker links I used above are useless ? Is there no way to vote for a task anymore ?

Also, just to be sure, tack uses the svn sources, right ? So we souldn't look this source, but rather github ?

I guess the tac roadmap still applies in any case ?

Sorry if my questions sounds stupid.

Pretty much. There's nothing to vote for in G2 or G1 anymore as neither are being actively developed or improved anymore. ALL development is happening in G3 right now. No voting for features there, but you can submit feature requests:
http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/gallery/

G3 uses git and only git http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/gallery/

G2 and G1 are still available via svn http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery:Using_Subversion

Your questions are not stupid. But maybe I can be of better help if you answer this question. What do you want to do?

My primary aim was to support the 2 bugreports I link in my first post : enable massive actions toward images (or videos). I think it's a feature that really should be in the next release of gallery. Gallery is already awesome, but editing elements one by one is giving me a headache.

But without a vote system, there is not much I can do to promote this feature. All I can do is to report the bug if it doesn't exist yet. But I didn't want to report it if it was already on the roadmap, hence the question about the roadmap.

i'll take a deeper look in the tickets.

Yeah, submitting bug reports or feature request for G2 probably won't go anywhere :) If you find a security flaw in G2, sure, that will probably get patched. But no new enhancements by the core team is going to happen.

As for G3, install it, test it, give feedback. It has a much more user friendly interface and the organize feature allows for easier editing of items. Not massive bulk editing if you want to change titles or descriptions across tons of images all at once, but it's better than G2 IMO.

For G2, take a look at the user contributed Bulk Manage plugin.

For G3, feel free to add your feature requests to the trac system I've linked to above. It will most likely get filed in the "Field of Dreams" milestone if you don't do that yourself. That is a spot that people who want to develop for G3 can go to and pick and choose stuff they want to work on. It's more of the "this is what some people want, but it's not going to be put into the core product" place. Those will most likely always be community repository type modules. Just like Drupal and WordPress have.

Unfortunately, this is not an option right now.

I'll have to set up 3 (or more), installations of gallery later on (one for me, and 2 or more for companies), i may try gallery3 then, but I really lack time right now.

Thank you. I didn't look the user contributed plugins. I am usually not really confident about user generated stuff (that's my paranoid/security side). But i still can try later on if I have to mass edit photos. I have backups anyway.

That's what I thought, unfortunately. As I said I have no time to do it myself, and I didn't send a patch for a while.

But anyway, if someone did a user contributed module for G2, someone will probably write something for G3.

Too bad it won't be in the core, i'm pretty sure that a lot of people would use it if it was just there. I would really make life easier as soon as you have more than 100 pictures.

Anyway, thank you very much for answering my questions and for your help. And congratulation for gallery. This is just awesome.
