Hi friends,

Please excuse me if these are silly questions. I'm new to Gallery...

I want to upgrade my Gallery install from 2.2 to 2.3. I believe I'm supposed to mount Gallery on my PC using WebDAV, and then unpack the 2.3 installer over my exisint g2.2 install. Is this correct?

HERE'S MY ISSUE...

I'm able to mount Gallery by clicking on the link provided in the "Mount with WebDAV window" from Internet Explorer. However, what I see when I mount Gallery are the actual folders for my existing photo galleries. I DO NOT see the root-level of my Gallery. Am I in the correct directory to "unpack" the g2.3 installer, or do I need to mount the root? If so, how would I do that?

Thanks!

That is for adding images.

Thanks for the reply floridave.

The FAQ says "...Download a complete new copy of Gallery 2 and simply unpack it on top of your existing Gallery 2 install..." Sorry if I'm a bit slow here, but how exactly do I "...unpack [g2.3] on top of..." my existing install?

Does this mean that I'm supposed to un-Zip the new installer, connect to the root level of my web server with FileZilla, and then upload the un-Zipped folder using FTP?

I'm on a Linux server, so my root directory is called "htdocs." My gallery directory lives at the top level of "htdocs" and is simply called "gallery." (The URL is www.centerfoldnextdoor.com/gallery.) When un-zipped, the 2.3 installer creates a folder called "gallery-2.3-typical-en." Inside that folder is another folder called "gallery2". Am I supposed to rename the un-Zipped "gallery2" folder to "gallery" and then FTP it into "htdocs", thereby replacing the original gallery folder?

Sorry to ask such basic questions. Again, I'm new to Gallery.

Thanks!!!

As soon a I upgrade from 2.2 to 2.3 I'll put my first model album online. If you like looking at free pictures of sexy girls you might want to check it out...

The new copy of G2.3 needs to overwrite the existing install.
How familiar are you with Linux command line?
You might need to extract the files ( they might end up in /gallery2 ) then copy them to /gallery/

Hi FloriDave,

I don't know how to use Linux at all. NetworkSolutions, my hosting provider has a "Filemanager" interface that I can log in to and use to move a file or folder from its existing location to a different directory. Would that work?

Am I correct in thinking that I would un-Zip the downloaded compressed install file on my PC and then use FTP to upload it into "htdocs"?

Your best bet is to unzip the files on your PC and then FTP them to the server, overwriting all the exsistiing files in the htdocs/gallery directory with the files on our pc that might have a desktop/gallery2/*.* structure.

Thanks FloriDave! I shall attempt this later today. Hopefully I'll have a nice fully-operational Gallery to share and I'll send you the link.
