G1 on old machine to G2 on new machine

Hi All,

I've been happily running Gallery 1.4.4 on a G4 iMac for years. I've recently upgraded to a new iMac, and have just finished setting up Gallery 2 on that... so far so good.

Unfortunately it seems that the migration module only works if the two installations are actually running on the same machine? I'm assuming this because it keeps telling me the path is invalid even if I've mounted the remote disk, and I've also tried just copying the albums folder to the new machine.

Am I doing something wrong, or do I need to install Gallery 1 on the new machine, import to that, then migrate from that installation?

Cheers,

Nick

FAQ: Can I update from G1 -> G2?

I'd follow the information on the old machine about updating G1 and doing everything else to G1 you need to, to prepare it for importing to G2.

Then you should (I don't know for sure) be able to just copy the albums directory to the new machine and point G2 to that:
/path/to/g1/albums/directory/

I think :)

Hi,

Thanks for the fast reply :)

I had tried this too.... I just got an error saying the path is invalid.. I had been wondering if the migration module actually needed to be able to run the old gallery itself..

On the basis of your advice that it should probably work, I had another go and noticed that the permissions on the folder (my desktop) were no access for anyone except me, to the webserver couldn't access it. Changed the location and it works a treat.

Cheers!
