Permissions: delete/edit any items or only own?

I'm a bit confused by permissions. If a user is given permission, for example, to delete or edit comments, does that mean he/she can edit or delete ANY comments or only his or her own? Similarly with the permission to delete items: can he/she delete ANY items or only ones that he/she created or submitted?

Any comments (or items) in that album or photo or what ever you applied the permissions to. Not just their stuff. Also, in helping and testing out for another person with a similar request. If you want people to be able to delete/manage photos they upload, you really need to setup an album for each user and set permissions from there. If you have a "shared" album that a bunch of people can upload to, they still can't delete or edit their stuff.

Take a look at the User Album plugin:

Thanks for the information. It's what I expected, so I'll have to make do with it.

In case anyone is wondering, what I'm trying to do is set up ONE album where a group of people can contribute, while others (less computer-savvy) would view. It would be a bit confusing for the viewers to go to different albums based on contributor, since the album is meant to cover a single event. I think I'll just remove the delete option; if a contributor wants to delete something they can contact me (as administrator).

Search this page for "Assign Permissions" I just stumbled across this looking for something else:

I have no idea if it's up to date or works or how it works, but that's one possibility too.

Also try Dave's suggestion here:
