With hopes of better securing my intellectual property. I've just discovered that .JPEG's can be batch converted to .SWF image files. So, I did a test and easily uploaded the files into G2 with beautiful results. However, I'm hoping that there may be a solution for linking in .JPG thumbnail images because .SWF obviously won't commence thumbnail images. I'd like to be able to upload the thumbnail images via FTP and have everything magically work in Gallery2. But what's really possible with modifying G2 in order to get thumbnails to link in? Looking forward to your reply!

There is no toolkit for generating thumbs for swf.
The only way is to upload a custom thumbnail for each swf.
With the Thumbnail Manager module
Edit Animation -> Custom Thumbnail

Ha yes, know I see ..."Said the blind man". Though I'd hope there would be a less tedious work-flow solution. I suppose I'll simply need to employ a helper for high-volume assignments. I'll figure something out! Thanks for such a quick and insightful reply.

How does that help? What's to stop someone simply taking a screenshot?

Nothing can prevent screen shots. Anyone who's low enough to steal screen shots really isn't my customer. The type of work I'm doing is most valuable as printed news editorials. Though I'm always seeking new and efficient ways of applying security strategies.

Is there a sort of person who's not (quite) low enough to steal screen shots or .swf files, but is low enough to steal jpegs? I'm interested in image security too, so I'm trying to understand the benefits here.

Perhaps there is no substantial benefit. I'm exploring! I believe the ultimate protection is branding your images with the © tag. Yea, people may get away with a screen grab, but they can't get meaningful value from it. Meaningful value comes with mass reproduction use. So long as the © is apparent to the publisher, the photographer is respected. Upon every release of .JPEG's I embed the © into every file's meta-data field; and watermark an unobtrusive © tag in either the upper or lower corner of the image files. Publishers are bound to notice the tag, then reply with an image release form. That's when the negotiations begin. $$$. The client returns to me, and I charge $$$ each time I've got to signature the release form. No more Mr. nice guy!

NOTE: I leave a .PDF file on disc stating the terms of use as well as the penalties for intervening with a © tag.

Ya know Alec, I'm currently using a "No Right Click" script on my site. I've bridged G2 within my CMS and the "No Right Click" script is not only discouraging people from image infringement, it also discourages the use of other useful features. So this is why I'm still exploring alternative solutions. FYI: I'm using Graphic Converter to create the .SWF's. It's just the process for including thumbnails is so laborious. I'm wondering if I might be able to upload an initial set of .JPEG's. Then a duplicate set of .SWF's and somehow swap-over the thumbnails?

Might be easier to script the addition of the thumbnails.

I'm not sure how that might be possible. Do you have any suggestions? What are your ideas.

Anything's possible with G2 - it's just case of how much of the API you're willing to learn to achieve what you want. There are scripts (unsupported) that have been posted for adding items to G2, there's no reason why you couldn't do something similar to add a custom thumbnail for existing items. Lots of the API to learn though, assuming you're already experienced in php. And lots of experimenting.

Once you find it let us know. We will gladly see if we can circumvent any security they have.
If it on the screen it can be taken.
