I need contact with webmaster

1) is this a Drupal site?
2) upload limits?
3) How can I contribute?
4) Organization of G3 modules - releases - updatetracking

Modules are running in on a dayly basis for RC3. Tracking what's new is impossible at this time. I thought of creating similar to Drupal... I need contact to whom it may concern

Yes this site is Drupal, but the documentation pages are using MediaWiki.

Since the doc pages are a wiki anyone can help out there, just create a user account there:
http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php?title=Special:UserLogin&type=signup&returnto=Main_Page

And you're all set.

You can also hop into IRC, where the devs and a few others hang out quite a bit:
http://codex.gallery2.org/IRC

You can also join the very low traffic -devel (Development) mailing list and ask there:

Who is running this Drupal site and which release is it and the Server ... Has Gallery any storing capacity for G3 modules under this site installation?

What I am getting at is that G3 needs to automate update info to users. Within G3 admin a view can display all installations release dates and versions. Once a day or so, G3 should check for updates and promt G3 admin that there is an update. Otherwise we chase around for updates and it's impossible to keep track.

So can anyone explain better, How does it work now (I sort of know this) and and what options are available for getting this right? to improve user friendliness and then broaden the user potential for G3

Bharat and one or two others maintain the site.

While it's under heavy development I doubt that's going to happen anytime soon. There has been discussion about something similar to what you're thinking. I can't remember if Drupal or Wordpress' system was used as an example, but nothing like this is in place yet and I don't think there are plans for it right now. You'd have to jump on either the -devel mailing list or IRC to ask if you want an answer sooner than I can provide it. Sometimes I'm in IRC a lot, sometimes (like the last few months) I'm rarely in there.

How does what work now? Keeping track of modules? The only modules that are maintained by the Gallery devs right now are those that ship with G3. All of the contributed modules need to be maintained by their authors and those authors should be maintaining their respective pages on the Codex (the documentation wiki)

If this is a Drupal site then, This module should work here:
http://drupal.org/project/project

This is the one Drupal use. There are additional modules in relation to developers uploads and users downloads

For this to work nicely a file name structure is required similar to what they do.

Regarding info to G3 admin. This is what Drupal does:

http://drupal.org/project/update_status

Porting to G3 could be a giant step for administration of G3

Which Drupal is this?

FYI - PM with Bharat - if this discussion should be in G3 or elsewhere, feel free to move. I don't know of any mailing list, so please forward if required..

Hi there. Can you post this comment to the gallery-devel mailing list? Let's discuss it out in the open. We need a better system, but it takes time and resources so we need people who can work on it.

Hey Bharat

Rwatcher and I worked on the flag module:
http://gallery.menalto.com/node/94647

Size exceed the 1mb upload limit and now I can not up the entire module to this thread. Can I have increased upload limit somehow? I expect this to be a dynamic module with adding of new languages flags as they emerge. And I don't believe in asking people to download 2 or 3 pachkages for one module and I don't beleive in sending people off to github and get lost.

Let me hear your thoughts...

Is this site Drupal?
I am getting concerned with G3 user looking around for upgraded modules for G3 all around: Sourceforge,Github, Forums, Module,Theme ......
Doing things as Drupal does, will be required by G3 sooner or later:
- G3 should check for upgrades at the G3 server
- Inform inside admin that modules are out of date

This requires filename structure that include
- Module ID/name
- Date published
- State release/dev
- and in time maybe even G3 release 1.1 - 1.2 - 2.0 etc

My general concern is the userfriendliness of this - leaving potential users out and creating an unreachable island....

Forums are not to store modules... Yes I am guilty. I use the forums for storing modules.
If one wants to make major contributions then the GIT hib is the way to go.
I don't think that drupal is the way to go to host code.

Looking forward to your post the gallery-devel mailing list.

This is NOT about hosting code - this is about keeping track of upgrades for G3, and get people to use the platform instead of seeing people take off for other solutions. Solution above does that perfectly. Modules for drupal (this site) are available to do this if introducing a decent module naming structure.

Imho - concider account here, account at git, reporting at sourcefourge, developers sure will figure it out, but is G3 for developers only??? Granny got lost long ago thats for sure. G3 should seriously concider for users to have one site, one login and everything available there. I concider G3 a relatively easy to use image galleri. If that goes well in hand with the community around it G3 might be the weapon of choice for it's purpose.

How do I get notified about an update for my G3. I follow a thread that I accidentally stumble over when logging in here. The above solution is today in Drupal Core and G3 needs this. At this time I have around 20 active contrib modules. Impossible to track so to say.

Why is Drupal not able to host code? hosting of the code is less important. How you get to it and locate it is important.

Wysiwyg - wysinotwyg

Another attempt to make this a production site. The wysiwyg in forum and for doc and codex is a dissaster. Guessing that bullets = * and I could go on is insane.

best wysiwyg for Drupal is fckeditor. They found it too slow and the same guys are now creating the new ckeditor. Thumbs are nice and it performs brilliantly. I have it on my site. demo here: http://drupal.ckeditor.com/ go to bottom of page and start typing

Administrator of Drupal decides how extensive an editor to use for different roles - Give us the full monty! and let the user decide
Admin chose where to display the editor and where not
Everyone can switch it of and use plain text field instead

3 things needed:

1) ckeditor - Module for Drupal: http://drupal.org/project/ckeditor
2) ckeditor - wysiwyg: http://ckeditor.com/
3) ckfinder - filebrowser for easy inline image display: http://ckfinder.com/

This is the best wysiwyg for web I ever saw. Install spec is included in #1 readme.txt

again this is no disrespect. this is in the best interest
When I complain - I provide alternatives

Am I the only one seeing this?

@hebhansen -- I agree that we need to do this better. It was a topic at the last meetup, but the problem is that most folks are up to their ears getting G3 working and haven't had time to really make a good community side of the website. The best place to have this discussion is on the gallery-devel mailing list, imo. http://codex.gallery2.org/Mailing_Lists is the place to start that off. I can't guarantee you much more than talk, but at least we can try to make a plan.
