THESE TUTORIALS WERE WRITTEN PRE-SKINS, TO CUSTOMIZE GALLERY BEING USED AS A STANDALONE APPLICATION.

YOUR FILES MAY NOT LOOK EXACTLY THE SAME, BUT THE BASE INFORMATION FOR USING THE HTML-WRAP FILES REMAINS THE SAME.

-------------------------------------------------

I've been revamping the Gallery Customization tutorials on my site. The link is in my signature, below.

They are now (I think) easier to follow, with each part having it's own page. The code is in a copy and paste format, making it easy for the user to copy the code to their own html_wrap files. The pages are also printer friendly, if you decide you want to print out the information.

As well, I've licensed them under a Creative Commons license that will give others the freedom to build on these tutorials if they desire, as long as they are shared in the same manner.

I don't have all the sections back online but it's almost done. There is a new section up with copy and paste code to add sidebars to both sides of Gallery, AND AS WELL, at the end there is a resource section with links for learning css, html, table construction and color codes. The last 3 sections should be up by the end of the weekend.

As well, don't forget there is more than one way to add the sidebars and header/footer to Gallery, I chose the table format for the tutorials because many people who wrote seemed to understand tables better than <div> tags and css. Once you understand how the table fits together then you can play with it a little to get the exact look you want. One easy way to see where all your columns and rows are laid out is to use the border tag in the table set at "1" instead of "0". Then set it back to "0" when you have the layout the way you like.

I hope the new format helps. Please post here if you have suggestions or comments. I don't have the time lately to answer all the email that the tutorials generate, but I do visit this forum regularly.

To follow up on Gaile s Gallery Customization Tutorials

albums.php is the file for the main page that has your albums
view_album.php is the file that shows the album (thumbs)
view_photo.php is the file that shows the photo (intermediate and full)

But you don't need to edit those files to get you gallery to look like that site. Use the wrapper files in the html_wrap directory. And the css.
How to use HTML wrapping system << Gaile walks you step by step holding your hand.
&
Tutorial: How to Integrate Gallery into your Website << Shadow_Wolf shows you how to do it step by step with examples.

The html_wrap files will not be overwritten when you upgrade. Changing the 3 php files mentioned will require you to redo your changes.
So you should use the wrapper files provided to integrate you gallery to your site.

I have found 2 tools that are invaluable the firefox browser and the web development tool that allows you to Make live edits to the CSS of a web page..
Once you have them both installed....
select edit css and under the 'information' dropdown check display ID & class details.
Edit your CSS and you will see the results. Once you have this the way you want, upload your edited css to the server.

I just started using Gallery. I wonder if there is a way to set a fixed width for all the pages (albums.php,
view_album.php, view_photo.php, etc.) with out putting the gallery in an iframe or table.

Thank you for creating this wonderful forum!

You can probably try working with the width sizes in the CSS.
