adding icon and linking to external pages

I am using the Matrix theme and gallery2. I would like to add an icon next to each image and then link the icon to an external page. I am not sure how to go about it but was looking for some advise or anyone that has done already. TIA TOM

Edit album.tpl to where you want your link and icon to show.
