Gallery resizes images for the default display. When I click the default image I see the original size I uploaded. My original looks like the image on my computer but the resized (smaller) image is duller looking.

For example if you click http://goo.gl/CikT you see the smaller image. Click on it to see the original. The original's colors are brighter, as I saved it on my computer.

The following information is required to get an answer:
Get this information from the PHP diagnostic (in the configuration wizard).
Gallery URL (optional but very useful): http://boppin.com/gallery
Gallery version: 1.5.10
Apache version: 1.3.41
PHP version (don't just say PHP 4, please): PHP v5.2.12 is OK.
Graphics Toolkit: ?
Operating system: Mac OS 10.6
Web browser/version (if applicable):

On the example you posted, I see very little difference on my monitor. Do you have Gallery set for guest to view the full size image? Few (nobody except for you) visitors to your site are going to have a calibrated monitor so your photos are going to display differently on nearly every single visitor's monitor anyway.

I didn't know of such a setting but presumably visitors see what I see when I'm not logged in, which are the resized images, only seeing the original if they click on the smaller, default image.

I'm aware of that unfortunate fact but at least on my MacBook's display there's a noticeable difference in contrast and brightness between the original and resized images.

Perhaps you can enlighten me: what is resizing the image? I should probably know that but I don't. Is it Gallery itself or something on my server?

As for what is doing the resizing. Gallery is using tools available on your server. Possibly GD (built into PHP) or ImageMagick or NetPBM. You'll have to dig into your configuration settings and in G1 I can't recall where that is.

This is much easier info to find out in G2. Though there still isn't a ton of control over settings. To dig into what parameters ImageMagick, GD or NetPBM use when editing images you'll need to dig into some of the code. In G1 I have no idea where to look. In G2 I could probably find it pretty easily.

It seems that this issue arose after upgrading to v 1.5.10. I think I was running 1.5.7 or perhaps earlier, before the upgrade.

Just tried your images on a different monitor and I don't see any different between the 2 images. Other than one is slighty smaller and maybe a little softer from the image processing, the contrast and brightness look the same on my monitors.
