Hello everybody,
I am searching for a method where I can change the permissions of multiple pictures at once.
For instance, I want to mark all the images I want to publish and set their permissions accordingly. Other pictures I don't want to publish to everybody but I want them to be seen by the registered users.
I hope somebody can give me a hint how to do that because I don't want to change every image separately.
Thanks in advance!

Gallery doesn't have a "published" vs "non-published" status. If you want to change permissions on multiple images at once, your only option is to change permissions on the entire album.

BTW, sounds like you have a nightmare setup from an administrative point. Having lots of unique permissions first can and will eventually slow Gallery down, it's also a major pain to administrate. As any sysadmin does (should be doing) when managing lots of users and files/directories/resources, etc is that your users should be in groups and your resources also "grouped". If you ever have to reset permissions or accidentally reset permissions on the album, you'll loose all the little unique permissions you've setup.

In G3 we've kind of forced this.

For G2, I can only suggest having your public stuff in a separate album.

first, thanks for the answer!
let me clarify: I have two groups, unregistered guests and registered users.
I upload all pictures into a particular album and then I want to decide whether everybody can see them or whether only registered users can see them. For now, the only possibility is to set the permissions for every particular image separately.
I can't imagine that there is not such a thing or a tweak around that.

I fully understand what you're trying to do. It's going to be a huge administrative nightmare for you, but have fun dealing with that.

There is no tweak or workaround that I've seen.

Best advice, re-think how you want to manage this. There is the replica module to copy items from one album to another, but that's creating a copy and I'm pretty sure that's just one item at a time.
