Display how many photos in entire gallery

Hello!

I want to display how many photos are stored in my entire gallery (not per album or subalbum) in my footer via theme.tpl.
Is there a variable existing which i can read out?

Tbank you for response.

This function prints the amout of all elements (photos + directories) and it does not count hidden photos for guests.
