Backing up is always good, but not necessary when migrating to G3. G3 is not an "upgrade" to G2 and it doesn't yet have all of the functionality of G2. It is a separate program. There is a migration/import tool, but it's not an upgrade.
Here's a link to the G2 Import tool that explains how to use it:
http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery3:Modules:g2_import
It only reads your G2 data and copies stuff in, it does not write or touch your G2 install in any other way. Just install G3 to a different directory, import, wait, wait some more, and wait even more for a big install and when it's all done, move things around to put G3 into your G2 location.
Done

Thank you.
Then, can I install G3 on the same subfolder of G2 and try it?
After that I can import G2 on the G3 and delete G2. Is correct?
Thank you

If you install G3 into the same subfolder as G2, you're going to have a hard time separating the two. Install it into it's own directory.
