Hello,
So I'm trying to upgrade my Gallery 2.2.1 instance to 2.3. So I followed the instructions from the site and extracted the 2.3 installer over my 2.2.1 installation. I go to the gallery instance http://teejnut.com/gallery2/ but during the system checks it fails with the following:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 64 bytes) in /home/teejnut2/public_html/gallery2/modules/core/classes/GalleryUtilities.class on line 1261

Lunarpages suggested I increased the php memory size by adding a php.ini file in the /public_html/ folder with the following memory_limit = 128M. That didn't help.

Any suggestions anyone? I'm trying to upgrade to 2.3 so that I can upgrade to 3.

http://teejnut.com/phpinfo.php

Thanks,
TJ

Try disabling as many plugins as possible and only upgrade absolutely necessary plugins when upgrading, your theme you're using, core, imagemagick or gd or what ever image toolkit you're using.

Leave the others to be activated and upgraded later under Site Admin > Plugins

If that doesn't work, see if there is a new install or upgrade log file under g2data (I can't recall if the log file is named upgrade or install for an upgrade). Then zip it and attach to this thread.

Whack the memory limit up to 256M.

PS. There is no "upgrade from G2 to G3". G3 is basically a totally different product and has no relation to G2 apart from sharing the "G" in the name and could as well have been called something else all together.

I've tried bumping the memory limit to 256M with no luck.

How do I deactivate plugins? When I try to go to my current gallery I just keep being directed to the 2.3 Upgrader page.

I don't see any new log files, I see the older log files from my previous install/upgrades only.

I understand G3 is a different beast, I was trying to setup G3 but ran into some issues importing my G2 gallery into G3 so this is why I wanted to upgrade my G2 instance to the latest and greatest.

During the upgrade process uncheck as many plugins as possible.

I don't get that far in the upgrade process. It fails during Step 2 System Checks - Performing system checks.

At this point, I'll suggest restoring your last G2 instance from backup before the backup gets overwritten with this broken instance and starting all over from scratch.

This time going from 2.2.1 to 2.2.6 before jumping to 2.3.1.

Well my smart self decided I didn't need a backup since I thought it would do a backup during the upgrade process. Is there a way to stop having the system go to the upgrader?

If not it's not too much of a big deal and I'll just setup the G3 instance.

Ask your host for the day before yesterday's backup. Every host backs stuff up daily.

You can of course forego the auto G3 migration for a fully manual process. The choice is yours.

Since I don't have their backup service they charge $75/hour (min 1 hour) to restore from their backups. Oh well. Instead I just setup my Gallery3 instance and now I'm using the Server Add Module to move pictures from G2 to G3. Thanks all for the help!
