Hi!

1.4.3-RC3 release, getting closer people, getting closer.
As it has been said, this release will probably be the one that ships as 1.4.3

Quote:

Unless it's h0bbel that's the hostage victim

There is still some potential for undiscovered bugs, but hopefully most of the issues has been resolved.

As for the recompilation of NetPBM with the missing binary for watermarking, stay tuned. It's getting closer!!

Please report any issues you have with 1.4.3-RC3 here.

I'll add the reports to my list here, and update status messages on them as they get resolved.

Slideshow applet is much improved.. works thru an http proxy and isn't showing hidden or no-permission photos. Yay!

I still see a couple problems, but fixes can wait until the next release..
1) photos are always made to fit the window, even if that means expanding the photo.. I think it should only shrink-to-fit and if the photo is smaller then center it.
2) gallery-wide random slideshow takes the first N photos and shows them in random order.. not picked randomly across entire gallery.

ideon: explain what you mean by not being downloadable. Currently the sf.net download servers are not responding to requests and that is a sourceforge problem, not us. The precompiled binaries are not avaliable yet, but keep your eyes open for a news article when they are released.

update: as of 11:34 EST, April 13th, the sf.net servers are responding and you should be able to download RC3.

Not sure why this is happening, but when I try to upgrade my albums, the window the popup window just shows the header text and kinda sits there. httpsd goes to 60% for a few minutes, then drops back to 1% or 2%. Last time I left the window for a few hours and got nothing... Any ideas?

If I just log out as admin the albums will be upgraded just fine as the users view them, or if I view them one at a time. Also, after this hang, my session of gallery will be unusable until I close the browser, launch a new copy, and access the gallery again.

FWIW, this is Gallery 1.4.3rc3 on Apache-SSL (gallery not running via SSL) 1.3.28 and PHP 4.3.4 via mod_php, all from FreeBSD 5.2-RELEASE ports.

Thanks,

-Steve

The Problem has Maked My Work Slow. It Has A Problem Logging in to The Account. My Very Own Admin Account. When I key In The Password It does Not Refresh And Redirect me to the Members Area but i still remain on the main page. To Solve That I had To Clear All My Cache Then Re-Key in My password Then Refresh The page Only then will the page redirect to the member area. Please Do Something About It I can't Keep Doing that Everytime I Login. If It Is My Problem Give Me A Solution.

Thanx

just upgraded to RC3 from 1.4.1. Maybe it's just me, but the front page seems slower to load? I enabled comments for albums and already had the subtree display enabled(yea, i know makes it slower). Have about 4000 pics in the gallery.

No biggie, so far can live with the load time/will disable the subtree if becomes a pain. Just wondering if anyone else experienced the same :)

thanks

The applets for uploading are resizing my photos and making them horribly pixelated.

I set the max file size to 800 pixels, and the Resize large images to 800 pixels. Unfortunately in Gallery Remote AND the Applets, this means images smaller than 800 pixels are hidiously resized to 800 pixels.

Horrible horrible bug that I would've thought should be common sense not to ever include in a release!

art4x, I have replicated the problem, and fixed it in GR 1.3.2-b11, which will be included in the final version of G 1.4.3.

I have Gallery 1.4.3-RC3 within Mambo 4.5 but my installation has the following bugs:

1. Once logged into Mambo and viewing the gallery, I am unable to logout except from the top level Gallery index (ie. not from within albums or viewing photos).

2. The Add Photos pop-up window is blank for a registered user with Publisher level access in Mambo. I have the minimum required access level for admin functions set to Publisher. In RC2 (on a different server) the popup window appeared but had used the Mambo page template. The Mambo Super Administrator account works ok - the Add Photos window displays normally.

3. I selected the Poloroid frame style for albums, sub-albums, thumbnails and images but it only shows up on the top-level album selection page.

Thanks guys for integrating the best open-source gallery into the best open-source CMS! Can't wait for G2.

Hello graywall,

1.) This is a known problem. The problem is, that Mambo uses the complete referer url and it seems there are things in it that screw the logout.
Fix will go into 1.4.4

2a) Well, this level was set in Mambo to see or edit Gallery. Currently in embedded Environments only admin can create a new toplevel album. Then you can set permissions inside Gallery.
2b) Thats on reason why we have a RC3.
2c) See 2a)

3.) Where did you select it ? in Configwizard ?

Regards,

Jens

Hi Jens

Thanks for the info. I'll have to look at point 2 later when I have more time.

The frame styles, I was selecting in the configuration wizard. It seemed to have saved my options as when I returned to it, the dropdowns were set to Poloroid.

Regards

Gallery 1.4.3 RCX with Geeklog intergration is still showing the actual email address of the author the photo.

If you go to http://www.apockotos.com and click on contact me, it will bring you to a form. But if you go to http://www.apockotos.com/gallery/albums.php and click on the name of the author of the photo, it shows the actual email address.

Is there anyway to preserve the geeklog functionality of hiding the email address?

Hello apockotos,

1.) Is this a Bug ?

2.) Same answer like i gave in 1.4.3-RC2 answer. This is a special Geeklog Feature. Make a RFE and we can see what we can do about this in 1.4.4. Assign it to me (jenst)

3.) You would have to modify the code for this functionality. You can make a second RFE about this. Assign it also to me.

When these RFE are there i can put this functionality into 1.4.4-cvs and you can use this version.

Regards,

Jens

Hallo Guys!

Thank you for 143 as well as dfor te new netpbm. I have installed the 143 wondering to see the watermark which I need so much. Event though my instalaltion seems to be "healthy", (I am only missing the jpegtran), the watermark is not being displayed even though I have specified the watermark directory correctly and also ave installed the latest netpbm. Could you estimate where could I make any mistake? I am running gallery under linux. Tahnk you.

As I just upgraded with RC3 and the new netpbm binaries........my gallery is SUPER SUPER slow to load....like **several** minutes upon opening an album and then once in the album to open the actual photos. Then it timed out and "could not find the picture".

Before I opened the site, I put the gallery in config mode and everything checked out 100% good.

I have put my gallery to debug mode but dont see any problems
http://www.ideon.cz/makao/galerie

When I clicked at the Gallery diagnostic page I see some errors connected to netbm!, where could be the key. I have saved the page and put it to: Though it is in czech I think you will understand it (I dont much :))
http://www.ideon.cz/makao/friend/

And I have also made a test accound friend/friend. Thank you once more! Martin

After waiting several minutes for stuff to load. I am down to these errors.

I downloaded both the win32 binaries and uploaded them as well as the linux alpha binaries.......this is what I get. Also, gallery still takes several minutes to load between after the main page!

IDM_Webmaster, why windows binaries? Why Alpha? Your host runs Linux, have you considered the plain linux binaries?

I didnt know which linux to grab, so I grabbed the first one. I only saw the linux alpha and the linux intel files.....so I should have grabbed the linux intel files?

Any ideas why my gallery is taking 5-10 minutes load then it wont find the picture after I click on the thumbnail??

IDM_Webmaster, yes, try the intel ones.

As for why your Apache is crashing, I don't know. Check the error_logs.

I dont see any errors in the logs. But that doesnt help with the 5-10 minute load time and the gallery not finding a picture once i click on a thumbnail.

I finally got the watermark to work. Now I just need to work on getting it transparent.

Other then that, since the new RC upgrade, my gallery has been taking 5-10 minutes to load. Then once in an album, ill click on a thumbnail and then IE wont find the page that gallery displays the picture on.

But this 5-10 minute load time is outrageous. Server Side or program side?

But I have since reverted back to RC2, but the load time issue still exists.

Has anybody got a working gallery that actually uses the watermarking yet? I'm keen to see 1.4.3RC3 in action before I upload and incorporate all my mods!

Transparency is completely controlled by the image you use to overlay with. NetPBM and ImageMagick only overlay images - not control their transparency.

I dont mean to bug, but I am not getting any replies to my page load times.

They are EXCEEDING 10 minutes at times. I believe this is program based. I dont see any errors. The only error I got before was after I click on a thumbnail then after long load time, it could not find the page "gallery" creates to display the picture.

Tonight, I got another error. I created a new album and some nested albums from the main gallery page just fine, but when I used the applet to upload pics, it said it could not create a thumbnail for the pictures I uploaded.

IDM_Webmaster, I am certain that the loads times is unrelated to Gallery as such. How does your apache error_log look?

I dont have an Apache error_log.....I dont host my own site. There are no errors on the logs on my control panel for the site.

I believe it is a gallery based error. This did not happen with RC2, and only started happening after upgrade of RC3. So I reverted back to RC2, yet the problem still persists. See for yourself. www.illusivedreams.org/gallery. Once there, click on an album, then from there, click on a picture.

I just tried to upload more pictures to a new album, and this is what I got error wise.

IDM_Webmaster, : /home/illusiv/public_html/gallery/netpbm/pnmscale: Permission denied ?? That is! chmod the folder and binaries 755. That won't help the loading times though. I have no idea why it is that slow, you'll have to contact your host.

I have contacted the host, and they think its the program that is doing it. But did you click on a thumbnail in a gallery and said IE could not find file......that whole IE error page?

ALL those binaries are already set to 755.....I already checked that.

IDM_Webmaster, whatever you say.... There [b]IS[7b] a permissions denied message there, so.....

And as for IE "couldn't find file" either it times out, or Apache/PHP is crashing - now way of knowing for us.

I know what the permissions are set to man. Why would you not believe me? As for apache/php crashing? I have no clue. This did NOT do this before I upgraded to 1.4.3-RC3

So, I dont know what to tell you. It did it while I was at work and its doing it here.

IDM_Webmaster, i don't believe you since you get a permissions denied message. And again, you need to contact you host.

I did contact them. They dont think its them at all. And my permissions ARE set to 755. I checked them 3 times now, 3 different ways....thru two ftps and thru my control panel manager.

And Again I'm getting a java error when I get the watermark popup. I'm getting sick of this, I was trying to install the newest version late at night yesterday (about 4 o clock). It was said that the runtime error should be fixed in the RC3 version, but it isn't

When I ignore the error and try to watermark my images, everything looks good but my watermarkings aren't visible in the photo's

Tim_j,

You don't know how much I thank you for this quick help. I'm kinda lost in my Gallery wood ;).

I've got one set up:

link: http://www.tgroen.nl/Nuke/modules/Gallery

Maybe it's usefull extra information but: when I try to watermark a picture by just selecting Edit Watermark in the dropdown, I'm not getting any erros. Though, my image isn't watermarked. When I try a whole album, I get that java runtime I was talking about.

Something with line 65 and sometimes with line 62
No object or empty on document.theform.data

Hello Jozzie,

i looked at your gallery:

- It seems you modified config.php manually and added a blank line or something at the end.
- You cant use watermarking feature with your gallery, because the needed binary is missing for netpbm or imagemagick.

The Javascript error you mentioned was fixed in RC3. If you upgraded from RC2 or earlier it may be that you didnt replaced all files.

Regards,

Jens
