How do I make albums invisible on main page or workaround?

I would like to hide the albums on the main page and instead just give users an album URL to see that specific album. The reason for this is so users don't have to logon, and so that smart users don't just go to http://.../gallery/ and see all abums. I thought I read that setting $gallery->app->showAlbumTree = "no";
would do just what I want but I still see all albums when hitting http://.../gallery/ as a non-logged in user.

If this is not possible, are there suggstions to accomplish what I want? I was thinking about multiple installations of Gallery but am slightly reluctant to possibly break a working configuration.
