Hide Album from front page in Gallery 1.5?

Hi,

I'm running Gallery 1.5, and I want to create an album but hide it from the main Gallery page. I've searched the forums here and in this link, they refer to clicking "Hide Album" from a pulldown--I cannot find any such option anywhere.

This thread (from 2004) says that at one time, this was not possible; I am wondering if this feature is available in 1.5?

I am not trying to hide a sub-album or an individual photo. I want to hide an entire album from appearing on the main page, yet still be accessible by direct URL. Can this be done in 1.5? (I'm willing to edit php files if someone can just tell me what I need to put in and where)

Hello,

Only subalbum can be hidden.

For mainalbums you must use the permissions.

Thank you. I guess I'll be upgrading to G2 then.

Easy. I needed to do this with my Gallery. So I make a main album inaccessible by the public (even registered users if you wish) using permissions as Jens suggested. All sub albums underneath are accessible by direct URL.

Check out my Gallery 1.5.2pl2 at http://solid77.doodle22.com/?newlang=en_US. You'll see no albums. Then check out http://solid77.doodle22.com/nature?newlang=en_US. This is a publicly accessible album. If you look at the navigation bar, you'll see an album http://solid77.doodle22.com/world?newlang=en_US above this one - that's a top level album inaccessble to the public.

My Gallery contains five such top level albums, but none is accessible by the public. Four of them are accessible by registered users; the last one only accessible by the admin. Each top level album has many subalbums, some public, some not. If I need to tell a non-registered user about a publicly accessible subalbum, I simply give the direct access URL. Using G1's permission settings, you can further fine tune such behaviour.

In the realm of G1, there is no real difference between a top level album and a subalbum in terms of user experience. So this workaround works for me perfectly.

Thanks, yuan.

Hiding main album is also an open feature request.
Maybe i will implement this into Gallery 1.6

Just spent a good 30 minutes going through the docs, then the forums, trying to find out how to hide a top level album.

Thanks for the work-around ideas. I hope this feature makes it into 1.6!
