Thanks for awesome gallery theme . I am facing few issues with theme UI on internet explorer 7.
1) Display is messed up on password page to view password protected album.
2) Password protected albums link do not work by mouse click
Hi,
Thanks for pointing out these bugs, I'll try to sort them out this Monday (going on a small trip over the weekend).
And hope to have a first relaese done in next week.
Please have a look at my devel page and report all bugs you can find.
Sorry, but the database should be up and running again!

Just a suggestion
1. When downloading a photo instead of seeing the photo in a "white page" I think it would be better if a download box would popup after pressing the download button.
Bugs
1. When going from Mosaic mode to Slideshow mode the slideshow wont work correctly as it doesn't work to switch between pictures using the controls below the photo inside the slideshow mode. The same problem exist when going from carousel mode to slideshow mode. When going from Grid mode to slideshow mode the slideshow seems to work as it should! Thought the slideshow seems to work sometimes. hmmm...
2. I guess this have been discussed earlier but anyway the gallery doesn't work for me in internet explorer 7. When I try to open the site it just says loading.
These are the things I found so far.
I was using latest firefox 3.

A couple bugs I found on the photo information page (the page you get to after clicking the 'i' icon)
1. In FF3, the image doesn't center - while in IE7 it does. Probably a CSS issue?
2. Resizing the photo to a bigger size causes it to flow out of the page, and cover the controls. IE7 manages to crop the image to stay on the page, but really, the page should expand vertically to fit the entire image.

Thanks for all reports, I'll try to fix them all and perhaps make the theme work even in IE

As for the information page I'm just displaying an ordinary photo page (in my case is it taken directly from the Matrix theme). Please let me know if you have seen another theme with a slick photo page and perhaps I can get some ideas from it..
Does anyone (Valiant perhaps) know how the settings in the configuration page is generated I can't get rid of the following
Rows per album page
Columns per album page
Show image owners
Show album owners
Thumbnail links in dynamic albums
Album Frame
Item Frame
Photo Frame
Color Pack
some how they seems to be magically generated and most of them are not used in our .Pear theme. If you find some more things that might be configured please leat me know.
Or just download the pear.zip file here (you might want to rename the containing dir trunk to pear but it really shouldn't matter). This link will always give you the latest svn version..
In latest update transperent png's seems to be working for IE>7 but we seems to have a bug for IE7 now when displaying an Album without images..

Yes, please report all issues in the new trac database, with as much information as possible.
This is really awsome. Great job.
Is there a list of features to be added?
MobileME/.Mac stops text highlighting any plans to add that to the .pear code?
Maybe include and album frame or a png overlay for the albums to get the rounded square corner and beveled look.
Something I'd love is the theme in different colors or a way to set the background color from the admin. Black is cool for apple, but I'd love to do white or gray controlled from the admin, and not just the image window, but the header and footer.

Erlis,
I wasn't able to update my ticket on trac, but i was able to figure it out. When i downloaded the latest trunk version, i renamed the folder "Pear". Evidently, it doesn't like the capital P. As soon as I changed it to "pear", everything works great.
Thanks for this great theme. Keep up the good work!

Well, most of the ice theme is rewritten.. I've just started with it since it had the looks I were trying to achieve.
You did mention that you wanted to get the skimming to work even for other themes. I've been in contact with Myles who is working on a plugin to handle skimming. Perhaps it will be possible to get skimming by just including a specific block when his plugin is finished.
I really would hope that the theme could be considered finished but I can't get it to look good and work in IE. If anyone know a good IE layout tool or have experience with IE compatibilities please let me know.

I would call it beta, there are some minor bugs in Firefox/Safari, but the real problems comes from IE. And I'm not that familiar on how to fix the current bugs in IE.
I've got alot to do at work right now so I don't really have time to address the bugs either.

where can someone download pear theme? I found some zip, extracted it... it appeared to look like a gallery theme uploaded it into the themes directory with ftp, and both the plugins and the theme link before installing gave blank pages.

I have been adding to my gallery quite a bit in the last couple weeks, and so far it has been pretty smooth going in Firefox and IE7. I finally managed to get a look at it in IE6 though, and it definitely needs a lot of work there.
I have been compiling a list of issues I see and I will post them all as trac trickets when I get a chance

You don't have any permission issues?

It sounds good that the theme is closing up to stable on IE7.
I'm not planning to support IE6 more than just showing an alern and perhaps a download link to IE7 or Firefox. There are simply to much work to make the theme IE6 friendly.
(Perhaps can we make a lite version for the poor bastards still using IE6).

Haha, I like the way you think. In fact, would it be possible to switch the user to a friendlier theme if IE6 is detected? I imagine if there is, it would have to be a core gallery feature...but just wondering.

Apparently the Gallery framework does not support this, but I've seen some implementations of using different css:es based on browser versions. Perhaps we can find a solution even for this. Unfortunate I've got so much to do at work so I won't have time to fix the last few bugs before the end of this year.

First of all my respect to your project, it is amazing!!
The pictures are loading and changing so fast i've never dreamt of ;)
I have a gallery2 installation with apx 21k pictures using the ice theme
which i've costumized a lot...
I was wondering if it is possible to put your, especially the mosaic engine,
behind the ice theme. I 'only' want to integrate the Cursor-Arrow feature plus the fascinating
fast picture viewer (preloading system?) behind the ice theme.
Things like in-/outfading or picture thumbnails are not necessary for me, perhaps
this makes it a little easier. Knowing, that your pear theme is based on the ice theme
gives me more hope
so long

Well..
The problem with gallery in general is that you have to access the images from album view and that is perhaps not possible. I've moved away quite a bit from the ICE theme in order to achieve what have come to be the Pear theme.
My suggestion for you are to look at the source code of Pear and try to figure out all "the magic" (yes some parts are even magic for me ).
You are welcome to send me messages or PM if you have any more specific questions.
P.S.
This is what I use to do the prefetching (found in album.tpl).
And of course a javascript to do all the actual loading (found in pear.js).
function preFetch()
{
for (var i = 0; i < slideshowImages.length; i++) {
var tempImage = new Element('img', {'src': slideshowImages[i][0]});
}
}
Then you just have to do a img swatch (have a look at line 86 in pear.js).

I really like this theme but can't use it correctly. Just as OldVolks above, no albums or images are shown in IE7. There is a script error when using IE quite early in the rendering. It doesn't work even if you browse directly to an album.
Using Google chrome gets me further. Albums and thumbnails are shown, but when clicking on a thumbnail, the image is blank. Clicking on the information button (i) gets you to show the image though. Not really sure what's going on there.
Firefox behaves the same way as Chrome.
Any pointers are welcome

That's really strange..
I don't know why it doesn't work for you and I really don't have time to have a look on it now either. I'm sorry
But one thing..
How do you download the Theme? Are you using the latest version?
Reflections are not implemented at all in the present versions, I didn't get it to work smoothly so I disabled it for now. I think however there should be a project driven by cthrax that generates a huge thumb for all the images in an album (This should be used for speeding up the skimming part).
The next thing for this theme is just to handle IE<7 (I think IE7 works pretty decent on my test page). Then we are probably ready for a "final" release.

Are you sure you have the latest revision?

To checkout the latest source issue:
rm -rf themes/pear

Or just download the pear.zip file here (you might want to rename the containing dir trunk to pear but it really shouldn't matter). This link will always give you the latest svn version..

With the file 'here' and changing it to be called pear this is the errors i get
Warning: This isnt a family or work safe site.

I think this is next best thing since slice of bread!!!
When will it be on the Gallery2 download page?

What version of Gallery2 are you running? The zip file generated from http://pear.erlis.se/trac/changeset/latest/trunk?old_path=/&filename=pear&format=zip should work (you might have to rename the trunk dir and install the theme in the preference panel).
When it's more IE friendly (I've had alot to do at work lately so I have not had time to finish it).

Knowing, that your pear theme is based on the ice theme
gives me more hope
so long

I've been flooded with work lately hence the theme isn't finished.

Running the latest revision (61), I have also seen that IE 7 and 8 both work pretty decently with the theme.
@OldVolks and legis2:
Are you sure you have the latest revision?
You can check out the latest from http://pear.erlis.se/svn/trunk/

I'm back!
Please update all bugs at http://pear.erlis.se/trac and I'll try to fix them so we can have a stable first release by the end of July.

good to have you back erlis!
I see you made some changes .. I'll check out the latest revision and add any bugs I see.

Anybody having the last revision laying around? The theme looks to be gone from erlis.se, so if somebody could post the last revision I would be more than happy!

It would be nice to have an mirror of the latest trac revision as trac or svn hosted on sourceforge, google code or something similar reliable.

Well, I don't really have time to complete this project even if I had quite fun on the run..
I have synced the entire project from trac to google code (new url will be: http://pear4gallery.googlecode.com).
Don't really know what to do with the issues in trac, should I export them so they can be imported to google code as well?
Please keep me posted if you have any concerns where I might help, but the browser comparability jungle killed my intrest.

Now you know how the dev team feels with browsers, OS, DBs, hosts......
Thanks for your contribution.
