Please let me know how it works for you.

I got a flash/xml coverflow functional in a gallery theme. Not finished yet but here it is.
For some reason, the album skimming doesn't seem to work - not sure if this is a configuration problem at my end, or if I need some plugin enabled...
It also looks like I still haven't got those colour select images right, they have a small problem with the transparency... - I will update these ASAP.
For RC2, I presume we will try and get the top bar looking like the .mac web gallery - shouldn't be too hard!
Great work Erlis! This thing is going to be awesome!

jacobdeane: It seems like you have some problems with the theme settings try to modify the settings and perhaps you'll find a working solution (I did notice that the image slider doesn't work either perhaps the same problem).
I've limited time to investigate this right now but in my next drive I'll surely remove all deprecated settings and continue with RC2.
Now when we have a "public" version out there I'll need help with suggestions on layout and things like that.. For instance what are good values for the image slider (now in mosaic mode it ranges from 32.5-125) is that reasonable or do we need to modify this?

erlis: its done and usable the coverflow portion, unfortunately i do all my ajax/js toolkits coding in Extjs so it depends on that lib as opposed to yours. Not being finished in the sense of the theme graphics and layout. Basicly all i did was make a flash cover flow and have all the data loading via xml which is supported in flash. Then when selected picture is selected i call a javascript function via the flash program and load it in a div above the flash cover flow. It works pretty good on large albums. I switched the theme on for my one album that is 170+ pictures check it out.
Still having problems getting it to display properly... Interestingly, the slider bar works with the mosaic view, but not in the grid view - I think this is something to do with album and photo views...
I have played about with every setting I could find, but still having no luck
Could someone who has got it all working list all the plugins they have installed and possibly do a screenshot of the theme config page?
Cheers

New release RC1.5
fix for the problems with configure options?
I'm also attempting to implement the callback core.loadPeers to enable resized pictures in lytescript/lyteshow but that will have to wait until RC2.
I am pleased to report that skimming and slider bar now works :D

jacobdeane: I see that the style lacks support for multiple (the page is to high), will add this as a To Do for RC2.
Do we have any other suggestions!? How shall I implement support for album/photo modification from within gallery?
Now it's not a problem since I'm reloading the whole page for every click. But in RC2 I'll just update the image in the Mosaic view hence links in the sidebar would not be updated and so on..
Is it Ok to remove all the comments features from this theme?
Please come with suggestions how to improve this theme.

The javascript handling window resize (pear.js) is now updated SVN revision R24.
Any more suggestions?
My intention is to remove the sidebar in Mosaic view, the only thin missing from the drop down in Grid view are Create replica, and that can I perhaps add to the drop down..

I am very interested in this Gallery theme. Thank you for taking this on.
The skimming seems to have about 9 steps across the image, regardless of how many images are in the album. The mac gallery has finer "resolution" on the skimming if there are more images in the gallery. What is involved in getting more discrete steps? I understand we are limited by the number of pixels wide the thumbnail is.
Also, the mac gallery has a higher perceived speed because they load a quarter of the image quality first and then fill in the blanks later. This makes it seem like the images are loaded faster. Is this something that can be implemented in the theme, or is that handled more by the Gallery engine?
I have installed the theme on a Bluehost.com site. When I actually upload some images, I'll post the link for further testing.

The skimming is made up from the following code, which in theory has a resolution of 150 pictures (I don't have so many pictures in any of mine albums so I can't really test it.
I have some ideas to "speed up" loading, but mine Ideas actually makes the page bigger..
One Idea is to set all images to a loading.gif image and the update the images from java-scripts, but in this way I actually thinks I'll take longer time to load due to the fact that most modern browser actually support parallel loading..
I think it's possible to get gallery to generate low-res images and use them instead, but then I do think mine approach is better

I have it set up now with all of your fixes. The skimmer works great. I have 80 pics in the album and it skims through 50 of them. I think that is a good number. Any more and it would take too long to load all of the thumbnails.
One thing happens with this many pictures. There ends up being two scroll bars on the right side. One is for the overall body, and the other is just for the grid or thumbnail frame. It would look much cleaner with only one scroll bar. Somehow have the height of the body be 100% of the window, with the scroll bar only used for the thumbnail frame.
I made one personal change in the #gallery style. I set the background to black. I think this background color should be the same as the color picker. Really I think there should not be a choice, only black. I understand others might feel differently.
Looking forward to the carousel function.

I don't know how I got the two scroll bars, but I can't get it to repeat. I only have one scroll bar now, unless I make the window some ridiculous size. It works as expected. I also read the milestones with changing background color being one of them. I posted prematurely on that.
Another thing I noticed in Mosaic. When I click on a thumbnail to view that image, the entire page reloads. I don't know much about it, but is this something that Ajax could be used for. Just reload that one portion of the screen.

Yes, I know there's some problem with multiple scrollbars it's on my to do list of fixes. The bg color should been fixed in RC1, but i did forget to change the css, will up date this later on. Perhaps a total rewrite of the css:es is necessary to get the first page look clean aswell..
Yes, my intention is to just (re)load the image in the Mosaic view, but that poses some problem i.e. the title is wrong and a few other things. This image repalce is already implemented in pear.js but disabled due to the above problems..

After investigating the Ajaxian theme I have some new ideas, but them requires almost a total rewrite of the whole theme..
Using java script it's possible to implement both matrix and grid view using gallery's native "album" view.. I don't really know how to solve all issues and it will probably end up with pretty messed up code.. We'll see how bored I'm here at work this week
Please give me suggestions on what kind of implementation you will like to see and how I should priority future developments.. I'm a bit stuck right now and are afraid that I'll break more than I'll fix

hello,
This is a really interesting thread. I am a dotMac member but this project is actually pretty good
I'm downloading the software and RC1.5 to give it a try
From what I have seen in the above deo the carousel feature is not implemented yet. But well considering how this project go on, i'm sure it will be soon
Keep up the good work!

Well if you're talking about the capability to "keep" the background color I would see it as a feature not a bug
If I click on the thumbnail of another photo to enlarge it, the background first go grey before going back to black... it's minor, but ut nevertheless auto switch for no reason.
Do you see what I mean?
Anyway, i'm loving this theme this is really good stuff

I mean I downloaded the latest pear.js and uploaded it online to replace the old one but i still have the same behaviour. Your site looks a lot different than mine now, i see you got more Ajax than I do, which makes the experience a lot better, have you released this last updates?

To use bleeding edge implementation i suggest you to use the svn version (discussed earlier in this thread). I still have some issues with the newest implementation (R30) so I'll wait until they are solved.
Perhaps we should move the carousel view to RC3 (I haven't started looking at this yet, and will not since undertoe are working on this) and call the new Ajax implementation RC2 what do you think??
Are there any problems with the current ajax theme? It's impossible to access information about a single photo, but is this a big issue?
My plans is to rewrite the photo view (which in RC1.5 is the same as Mosaic view) to show up in a lytebox almost as Apples solution but this must wait till next week.. Perhaps someone can create images to show in photo view..
Suggestions on what to display: download item; add comment; exif data; edit link; and so on..
Please have a look on the original Ajaxan theme for gallery2 how to improve pear.

Yeh there is no rush for the carousel view. I believe the focus on Ajax for RC2 is great.
Would you mind PMing creadentials so that i can log in the SVN site to get your version?
let e play with the Ajaxian theme and i'll get back to you

Also maybe you should chek ou the Ebony theme, which is available in the theme forum. It's a recent theme which looks pretty good
check out this thread, there is a demo http://gallery.menalto.com/node/74978
It makes me think that we might want to see a search engine for Pear as well, what do you think is it on the road map at some point?

updated R31-R32
Fix for:
* Navigator size
* Support for Photo page from lyteshow
* Smaller offset between thumbs (both Grid and Mosaic view)
* Removed thumb info in Mosaic view
* Added img-desc in Mosaic view
* Updated lytebox/show to show image title
The Ebony Theme looks interesting, perhaps we can use the styles for lyteshow/box.. I don't see the use for the search function.

Great!
BTW do you think it's possible to use a javascript compressor? I think the YUI has release one. I believe it would speed up the whole thing at startup. Do you think this is something that can be done here (http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/compressor/)
Well I guess I'll implement the search myself then cause I like to search within a gallery by using tags/keywords

Yes, that should be possible.. The problem right now is that we are using the scriptaculous slider which requires the protorype.js that are over 100k in size.. Feel free to try to compact the js files and PM me them if you succeeds..

New release.. (R37)
RC1.8 With Ajax requests and support for IE (only tested in Internet Explorer 7).
I think that if we move up carousel view to RC3 only reflection is left.
(There still exists some problems in IE but I'm unable to fix them right now, I need some CSS editor for win to test and modifi it.)

Here is a problem I am having. In Mosaic, if the image size is say 640 x 480, but the space available to view the image is 700x700, the them expands the image to fit the space. Web browsers are not very good at resizing images and it looks terrible. Is there a way to have the theme leave the image in its original size, if it is smaller than the space available?

Why don't you just generate images in 800x800 (which is the default image size for pear to use)
Well, of course I can fix a patch for this, it's pretty easy but it'll have to wait..

Well if you're talking about the capability to "keep" the background color I would see it as a feature not a bug

no i mean for example here
http://gallery.jdpictures.co.uk/album/Maritime/DSC_3189.jpg.html
If I click on the thumbnail of another photo to enlarge it, the background first go grey before going back to black... it's minor, but ut nevertheless auto switch for no reason.
Do you see what I mean?
Anyway, i'm loving this theme this is really good stuff

If you look at my devel page (http://erlis.se/~erlis/gallery/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=1071) you'll see that with the new "Ajax" implementation this issue is gone..

Man looks awesomiiiiiiier!!!!!

Fix for:
* Navigator size

(There still exists some problems in IE but I'm unable to fix them right now, I need some CSS editor for win to test and modifi it.)

really nice job erlis! One question - can we still upload videos to the gallery?

Yes, that should be possible (haven't really tested that yet).

Thanks for your inputs.
Edit: Fixed in latest SVN revision

Have you taken a look at this:
http://194.95.111.244/~countzero/scripts/_myImageFlow/
They seem to have the coverflow working, though I'm not sure how compatible it is w/ your existing theme.
Also, does this theme accurately track item view counts?

CoverFlow looks interesting, I already have some parts working on my devel page..
Yes, thats true.. View counts are totally messed up (mostly because I preload all images).
