This is my WPG2 Validation Check: Valid

Wordpress Compatible? Success
URI to Gallery2 Ok? Success
Gallery2 can be located in G2 File Path? Success
Gallery2 can be initialised? Success
Gallery2 Version Compatible? Success
Gallery2 Module: ImageBlock Active? Success
Gallery2 Module: ImageFrame Active? Success
WPG2 Output Page Type? Wordpress
WPG2 Gallery2 Rewrites Status? On
Embedded Page is using what Header type? WPG2HEADER
Embedded Page is using what Footer type? WPG2FOOTER
Using Which WPG2 Stylesheet? Internal

Thanks!!!Gallery2 Rewrites Status change: "On" to "off"

They *should* only change to off for a few seconds and then go back on. This is because we had to deal with the way that WordPress does its rewrites (which is terribly, from a developer's point of view...)

After any changes to permalinks or a change to the embedded page's page slug, G2 URL rewrites are temporarily disabled and a WordPress cron job is scheduled to reactivate them after the WordPress rewrite array finishes populating. The WordPress cron job is not a classic *nix cron job; it is handled internally by WordPress.

If your URL rewrite is staying off instead of coming back on after a few seconds, I'm wondering if WordPress' cron jobs aren't working right on your server configuration?

Unfortunately the WP Cron is internally controlled and does not have (as far as I know) any UI to check what is scheduled or not.. It does sound like your WP Cron system is not working thus why when you change Permalinks, WPG2 enters a SAFE rewrite mode because it has no way to detect what permalinks have changed so it can reconfigure the correct internal URL's. (Either that or your Cron is very very slow) ;)

FYI, URL rewrites will also automatically go into safe mode (off) EVERY time you deactivate and reactivate WPG2 from the Plugins Management tab. This is because rewrites cause lots of problems, and we want to make sure that your embedded gallery is working before you turn rewrites back on. You should get a warning on the WPG2 Validation page about this.

@ozgreg: Can you provide anymore information regarding WP Cron? I'm having the same trouble with the rewrites turning off spontaneously and not coming back on. I would like to solve the issue, but have never heard about WP's cron system. Is there any website/support form, etc. that talks about this WP feature?

Thanks for your help,

DaveE

WP Cron is an internal job scheduler inside WP CORE, unfortunately it does not have a UI so I am not sure if we can even see a log of what it is doing..

In another thought, Do you run some kind of caching plugin? In another thread someone found that their WP caching plugin was also resetting the G2 rewrites..

I will try to see if I can find something that logs WP Cron events, but these events should only happen when your WPG2 Page slug changes, or your WP Permalink settings get changed..

Thanks for the quick response.

Yes, I understand that WP Cron is part of the WP Core. We aren't using any kind of caching plug-in. In our case, the rewrites have turned off even though we have not modified the WPG2 slug or WP Permalinks. I've have tried running the site with Gallery's Performance Tuning/Acceleration both on and off and that doesn't appear to make a difference either. What makes figuring this out so difficult is that the rewrites seem to turn off so spontaneously. It might be impossible to really debug this issue.

Thanks again for your help. We'll just keep flipping the switch back on after it turns off :-(

Hi. I have this problem on a clean install of WP2.5 and WPG2. The gallery itself is older. WPG2 turns off rewrites then gives an error that they're turned off in the rewrites menu.

Hi Jivyb,

Unfortunately, WPG2 isn't yet compatible with WP 2.5. You can read more about it here: http://gallery.menalto.com/node/67933.

Sorry for the bad news,

3.05 is almost ready for release and will have the ability to generate an audit trail of events to trap why your switch is getting reset..
