I have been unable to login to Gallery. Each time I try, it just takes me back to the main page of my gallery.

Here is the link to my main page: http://www.swidahobirders.org/gallery/main.php?g2_fromNavId=xfbf6cb72&g2_navId=xc27dd49b

I have changed the password hoping this would help but it hasn't.

Can someone please help me?

Thanks, Denise

I think it's gallery 2. There is a gallery 2 logo at the bottom left of the main page.

I am having the same problem (can't login...admin or reg user) when I use Internet Explorer 7. I have no problems when using Firefox or Compuserve's Netscape. I am ok with using Firefox but afraid it is causing problems for my registered users.

I have deleted cookies, temp files, run cleaners, used system restore. This started when I upgraded to 2.5.

Please help

FAQ: I can't login anymore, what can I do now?
4 differetn posters on the same issue so don't know as some answered "Thanks for the fix..." perhaps that was sarcastic?

got exactly the same issue yesterday. Struggling to figure out why. Firefox 3 works fine. IE 7 doesn't work at all. After turning on the debug mode, it shows permission denied error which should be related to anonymous account (meaning not authenticated).

Weird, I just started getting this as well. I CAN login to Gallery2 using Firefox2, but CANNOT login to Gallery2 using IE7. I've tried this on multiple computers with the same results.

confirm...Chrome works fine for me too. Firefox 3 works fine as well. Tried both IE7 and IE8 Beta, same error. Even upgraded Gallery2 to 2.2.5, same thing. Tried disable and enable "User Album", "URL Rewrite", recreated the user accounts and reset the passwords. Still no luck. I am gonna try one more night and will probably give up.

What I can't figure out is this worked for me two days ago, then just stopped working all of a sudden. I've deleted everything temporary I can find on the server, optimized the DB, etc. Did the same on both clients (though I'm highly doubtful that it's a client problem). The biggest problem it poses is that I can no longer use the XP "Publish this photo to the web" feature that I use on a daily basis. I now have to do a multi-step process to post photos. This is a big problem.

Anyone thinks it could be a setting or server update issue which affects all of us who are using the hosting account? This seems to happen very recently. If it is an issue of Gallery2, then we should have a lot more people talking about this than just a few of us. It can't be at the client side since many of us including me have tried on many computers at various locations with different internet vendors. Hosting account? Unless one of us is hosting it himself (herself).

BTW, Chrome DOES work for me (and doesn't display the Album/Photo frames correctly...ugh). It just seems to be IE. Any way to change the "Publish this photo to the web" to use a different browser? :)

I have been following this thread and just tried the link and was able to successfully login with IE.
Attached is the page as loged in and a IE info window for comparison.

I had the same issue with IE on vista ult 64.

I cleaned out my settings, and reset my defaults back. This then killed me when trying to login. You can see that it working correct due to the fact if you use and incorrect password it tells you that the login failed.

How i resolved this issue was to login into my gallery using the 64-bit version, where i never reset the settings and the login was successfully. I then went back to the 32-bit version and all worked fine. This points me to believe that this is some type of cookie issue with IE.

Hi Floridave, can you give mine a try? It only works for me under FF and Chrome.

I haven't made any changes to my G2 install in a while, so I don't think I "caused" this (this time).

Very odd...I'm NOT able to login to your site using IE7 (FF works). I have the same issue of it "accepting" the login and returning me to the main.php page. My IE install is the same version as yours.

Now what's odd is I turned on Prompt for cookies, and when I try to login to my site I get a cookie prompt, but with yours I never get prompted (I also don't have a cookie from langleycom.com).

Firefox has a error windowfull of warnings in my page. One of them says
"Unknown pseudo element'AdminGetid3' Pack of rules ignored due to a wrong selector" (well or something alike, mine is in spanish and im translating)

The warning links to this sentence in the code:

/* Getid3:Admin Getid3 */
.gbLink-getid3:AdminGetid3 {
background-image: url(getid3.png);

I dont know enough web design to sort it out, but looks like the problem is there. Maybe it happens for a wrong configuration of IE, or the firewall...

@floridave is there any debugging/logging that can be turned on on the server side to see if the user is being authenticated? Can I find this in the DB somewhere?

Well with FF you could use the developer plugin and see the response headers, but that does not help with IE.
All the debug info I know about is 'buffered' in config.php, but again I doubt that will help but worth a shot.
FAQ: How to set/use Gallery in debug mode?
Other than that I guess there is some 3rd party stuff for the server to view incomming and outgoing requests.

****Also note that the SQL calls that Firefox makes are very different than the ones that IE makes. Is that just a difference in output? For example, Firefox makes this call: (mysql): SELECT g_userId, g_remoteIdentifier, g_creationTimestamp, g_modificationTimestamp, g_data FROM g2_SessionMap WHERE g_id='3659a22bd6b2c49af4663ebd24c8d2da' but IE never even does anything close to that...

Also IE seems to just stop after the core plugin is loaded, but Firefox keeps doing stuff...

just a quick update for your reference. I just did another clean installation of gallery 2.25, still the same thing. Well, I think I am close. Because I just got the same error "security violation" and the rest of common error code with Google Chrome. I didn't get it yesterday. I did all of the routine such as cleaning the cookies and temporary files etc. No luck. Interestingly I managed to log into the site successfully with IE7 on another computer today! Very strange. Anyone cares to tell whether you have SP3 installed in your windows xp? Anyone here uses IE in VISTA? I found my XP Pro is on SP2 and missing some of the updates. Will do those in a minute and see what happens. Really think it is an issue specific to our computer (browser) setting. Will let you guys know if the updates did some magic.

@hugeseal: I'm running IE7 on XP SP3. What I don't understand is why this started happening all of a sudden. I've uploaded at least one photo every single day for the last 530 days using IE7, and all of a sudden it stops working? Something weird is going on. Might be a MS update gone wrong...

Thanks, GravityArc for your answer. Yes, you are right. I totally think it might have been the MS updates since the computer I used today don't have the most recent updates. Do you have your update set to automatic? Also, I agree that it just started to happen for me. However, even before I was able to log in properly, every now and then, my users will report the occasion problem which gave the similar error "security violation" when they clicked on the link "Gallery". I also noticed many people mentioned this on the web. Well, my next step will be to try Gallery 2.3 unless someone here has already done so.

floridave: Buy the screen you appear to be using Windows XP, this seems to be a IE on Vista issue. It was about the time I upgraded that I noticed this.

I think it might be this update
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (953838)

Yes I run XP, never ran Vista before except at the computer shop, for less than 5 min.

Just a guess.

not it. My computer doesn't have 953838 but 953839. Uninstalled it anyway. But same thing. Floridave, it is in Control panel -> add remove program --> check "show updates" box

Some things that I've found:

Things that don't help:
-Disabling Google Toolbar
-Disabling IE7Pro
-Disabling ALL Add-ins on IE7

In the post, IE passes the following Referer:
Referer: http://www.udkow.com/modules/Gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.UserAdmin&g2_subView=core.UserLogin&g2_return=%2Fmodules%2FGallery2%2Fmain.php&g2_returnName=album

whereas Firefox passes this:
Referer: http://www.udkow.com/modules/Gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.UserAdmin&g2_subView=core.UserLogin&g2_return=%2Fmodules%2FGallery2%2Fmain.php%3F&g2_returnName=album

They're close, but at the very end Firefox has ...main.php%3F&g2_returnName=album. IE7 has ...main.php&g2_returnName=album. Note that FF has "%3F" where IE7 is missing that. Don't know if that matters.

Also, IE7 is passing a cookie with what looks to be a hashed user (it's a very long string of nonesense characters). Firefox is only passing a cookie "lang=english".

There are other differences in the post, but they don't seem to be related.

I think I'm grasping at straws here, but there must be a solution to this as the problem has not existed all along. I also tried changing my user-agent in Firefox to IE7, but that made no difference.

I'm a brand new user (just installed Gallery tonight) and I have this same problem. I can't login using IE7 (WinXP Pro) but just tried FF3 and it works. Obviously I have nothing to go on since I just now tried, but I did upgrade to SP3 today (over 2 freakin' hours!) and strongly suspect that is the problem.

My two cents....

I'm not convinced that it is a Microsoft Update anymore...I removed the following updates (the only ones installed in the last couple of weeks) and rebooted. Still not able to login. There have been some MS Office updates installed also, but I can't imagine they're to blame.

Windows XP KB953839
Windows XP KB952954
Windows XP KB946648
Windows XP KB951072-v2
Windows XP KB950974
Windows XP KB952287
Windows XP KB951066
Internet Explorer 7 KB953838

What an odd problem... :-)

IE7 under Vista here.

Enabled debug mode and ran a quick diff... The major difference seems to be that, under Chrome, there's an additional SQL action as below.

< (mysqlt): INSERT INTO g2_SessionMap (g_id, g_userId, g_remoteIdentifier,
< g_creationTimestamp, g_modificationTimestamp, g_data) VALUES
< ...... (some codes, omitted)[

Hope this helps...

Ok. Thanks for all of the inputs. I think we are close. I just found another computer with IE7 but missing many updates since I don't use this one too often. IE7 7.0.5730.11 of this computer works fine. So let's assume all of the updates related to MS Office has nothing to do with this problem. Then the remaining updates are 953838 and 953839 (tested, doesn't change anything), 950974, 952954, 951072, 952287, 890830. I will uninstall these from my computer and see if it helps and let you guys know. If uninstalling didn't help, I will then install those updates one by one on the other computer and see which one breaks it. I am sure we will figure this out.

I believe you that you are having trouble logging in but it is hard to see from my end of things.

Try on my test site:

I can't login in as admin on my site. Tested your test site and had no issue from FF 3.0.1 logging in. Can't really do anything with my system currently. I turned on debugging, but nothing jumped out at me. I cleared the cookies, and I've noticed they are not being set again. I attempted to login with both IE7 and FF3.0.1. I disabled cookies in IE7 but no luck there either.

Hmmm...can someone who is experiencing the IE7 login problem try something. If you have a Gmail account, are you able to login to Google Chat using IE7 (just the default chat box on the left side of the page)? I'm not able to login to Google chat either using IE7 but can using Firefox. I think there's definitely something going on with IE7 lately...

I wasn't sure where to post this information because of the multiple threads related to the same issue, but it appears this is the longest thread so here goes.

I just updated to Gallery2 v2.2.5 last night from v2.2.4. Everything was working fine before the upgrade but I was no longer able to sign in to Gallery2 on any account afterwards. I am using IE v7.0.5730.11 and I tried clearing the cache/cookies etc. to no avail. I also tried visiting my Gallery2 site from a freshly installed OS/IE using the same version of IE with no luck.

Now for the interesting part. I can log in on my Gallery2 site normally from work on an earlier version of IE. I'm no longer there so I can't confirm the exact version, but I believe it's 6.x.

EDIT:
Btw, Floridave, I tried your test site from my the IE7 computer I'm at now and couldn't sign in using the un/pw you posted.

And GravityArc, I can sign in to my Gmail account from this IE7 computer.

Gork: It's not Gmail itself that I have issues with, it's once I'm logged-in that Chat can't sign-in. When you're in Gmail on IE7 from a computer that doesn't work with G2 does Chat sign-in?

Another interesting tidbit... I just tried logging into my Gallery2 site from a proxy server at http://anonymouse.org/ within my IE7 browser and it signed in fine.

@GravityArc
I've never used the Chat feature of Google mail so I'm not familiar with it. But I logged in again and took a look. In a vertical toolbar on the left side of the IE window there is an area signified by the label "Chat". My name is listed there with a small "green light" looking icon. I believe that signifies that I'm signed in to chat and listed as "available." So I'm guessing that yes, I'm able to sign into chat properly with the IE7 browser I'm using, the exact version listed in my previous post.

I still am so this is getting baffling.
Did any user try to upgrade to IE8 and went back.

Not I. I'm trying to remember any changes other than upgrading to Gallery2 v225 I may have done but can't remember anything recent at all. Plus as I noted I'm as close to positive as I can be that I wasn't having the problem before upgrading from v224. That info doesn't seem to coincide with the problems others are having, though, nor the lack of your problems you're having when using the same IE version I am. (I assume you're using the same version.)

I'll check the IE version at work when I get there tonight and post it. I don't really want to permanently downgrade to v224 because I have done way too much work since upgrading to v225 that I'd have to redo, but it shouldn't be that huge of a deal to downgrade temporarily to see how it affects the log in issue. If work is slow enough tonight and I'm able to do that I'll post back the results. I'm no guru at all this stuff so I'm a little afraid of doing something wrong and losing data though. Scary!

Oh, one thing I guess I could mention but haven't because I didn't think it should matter. Before I upgraded to G2v225 I tried G2v3rc1 but was overwhelmed by issues I was having to the point I was in over my head and wouldn't really be able to help out with the testing. So I went back to v224 then upgraded to v225 from there. I completely wiped everything related to the rc1 version though, including the database, g2 and g2data directories so this shouldn't have anything to do with the problem.

EDIT:
One thing I can add is that I upgraded GalleryRemote from v1.5.1-b36 to v1.5.1-b40 after upgrading G2 to v225 and used it to upload a bunch of photos before ever trying to log on to my G2 site from IE. I don't know whether that could be involved with the issue or not. This program is installed on the same machine as IIS/G2 is and uses "localhost" to connect to G2.

I think that adding info ( versions etc ) to the same thread will help.

Thanks Dave, added my info there.

BTW, myt Gmail chat problem was unrelated. Gmail support (they actually exist!!!) fixed my login issues.
