Thank you for adding the Title/Description to the photo page. Looking good.
A couple of tweaks and suggestions
screen.css: line 180: #g-info .g-description { 4px; padding: 4px; text-align: center;} adding center (i was able to do this myself, and can continue to do so),
but i can't figure out how to remove the box around the text.
On the album page, i think the description should directly follow the title. Could even be on the same line with a colon-space separating (maybe description with a smaller font). in this case description should be left justified.
I realize I'm still having an issue with Titles and Descriptions. In albums, I'd like to see the Description (which is the Caption on my photo organizing program. But for the album thumbnail, I'd like to see the Title. I'll have to think about how G3 works a bit to see what to do. I could just have the same Title and Description for the albums which is probably OK. Obviously would cause problems with other themes, but I don't plan to change at this point.
Something is messed up with your CSS, right border "jumps" to close in the thumb. Intentional?

Instead of screen.css, add the same rule in colors.css, it would be easier to manage and less to follow - just your own section with all tweaks re-added every time or just your own color pack.
I do not want to center it, because I have usually a paragraph of text there, not a title. Title is above paginate.

Look for #g-info .g-description in colors.css

You are free to customize the layout. This was last-minute addition. I may add special option to choose where to place it (separate from one today) - above, below, overlay. In next release

Use title in MY_Theme_View.php, use description in photo.html.php
Also, try to re-download the theme you a little out of sync - indication is "^" (up) button in page navigator, between [previous] and [next].
I have missed a few files in initial upload, but current is OK

By edit box you mean search? I do not see it happening on 1024x768. it is centered in the screen between logo and the search
Sorry, I was not clear. I am referring to the status bar (popup) that reports "SAVED PHOTO" after one has saved the edit and fades out. Dark grey on my screen. Using the "Edit Photo" choice (again) appears to be blocked by the status bar until it fades completely.
At least in FF 3.6.2
Re: the "Logout" and "Login" links on the entry page -- yes, these are visible in 1024, but only in FULL SCREEN. But now I just realized there is no scalability in G3, so it's full screen or lose items on margins of the screen.
Hm --- was G2 like that as well? I can't remember.

Serge
I installed a clean copy of the theme.
I'm not sure what you're seeing with respect to the right border. Which border? But I haven't changed any CSS other than what I already mentioned.
Thanks for the suggestion on color pack. I took the title too literally and didn't think about making other changes there.
Changed color.css: line 29 to: #g-info .g-description { text-align:center; } added to color.css to center the text and not have a border around the Caption (Description) on Photo page.
Thanks for planning to add alternate positions for the Album Description.
Edit:
I think I have figured out what it is that make sense to me for Caption/Description "Below"
Album of Albums: Title shows which is correct, Description shows below which is OK (below title better)
Album of Photos: Title is showing, instead of Description. If I understand it, Album of Albums and Album of Photos are the same as far as the theme is concerned, so I might be able to do what sddroog suggested.
Photo Page: Description (caption) shows if existing and blank otherwise. Good
But ugly filename (Title) shows above the photo below the breadcrumb. #g-info h1 {visibility: hidden;} hides it and some checking indicated it won't cause other problems, but not a robust way to do it. Maybe when I get how G3 is handled better.
i'm just spelling all of this out to make it clear (mainly to myself) what i'm trying to do and get any comments. That the Album page is used in two different ways by G3 is complicated and confusing. And of course you can mix albums and photos in an album, so there is a third possibility.
Thanks for keeping up with development. Guess it'll be a week before we hear from you.

Great work Serge and everyone involved with Gallery!
I've installed G3 and your Grey Dragon theme and I like it very much.
FYI, it appears as though there is an incompatibility problem with your Thumb Navigator module and Grey Dragon v. 2.1.2. When the Thumb Navigator module is activated, the search does not work (it just shows a black screen). I first found it on my website and then noticed that the search on your demo page didn't work. By removing the modules one by one, it appears as though Thumb Navigator was the culprit.
Thanks, we appreciate the great work you're doing Serge!

Hi,
just noticed that i cant upload more then 7 to 10 pictures at once. Tried that four times, but each time the upload stopped at an unpredictable point, after that i need to close the browser window cause its not responding any more.
@lightartist: it is not issue with the theme, but with the module itself and it is fixed. you can grab new version of the navigator
@huebi: does it work with Wind theme?

Yes, deleted all the files, changed to wind theme, and uploaded the same files without any problems.
Went to Greydragon back und it stuck after a while. Theres not a specific amount of files, sometimes i can transfer only 5 files, sometimes 10 files.
BTW the Browser stucks up with not responding - both firefox and IE8.
As i can upload my files with wind theme its not critical (for me). It has nothing to do with GWT, cause wind theme is working well with GWT and with GWT disabled and original Organizer enabled.
But still Google Gears is installed on both Browsers and without it Greydragon will not upload any pictures ( file dialog box is not popping up disabling Google Gears in FF ).
I want to change the Font Weight from Bold to Normal. I modified the screen.css file and replaced bold with normal but it is still showing everthing in bold.
@huebi: have no idea, will check when back
@micrographics: it is not enough to remove bold style, you need to change how <strong> attribute is rendered - remove bold style. Check CSS docs for more details
@huebi: I did some check and there is a problem with the module and sidebar

I have the latest Gallery 3 nightly download and have greydragon 2.1.2 and I really love the theme it is just great. However I noticed one of the changes from an earlier version was the ability to change the gallery description placement. I am not sure why the default wouldn't be at the top of the page but is there away to at least add that as a choice. So on the theme option page have hide, bottom, overlay, and top? Because at the top of the main gallery and any of the albums I would think the guest would not want to scroll all the way down the page to see the intro to the gallery. These are just my thoughts and something I noticed changed from an earlier version.

because this is associated/started as an option for the thumb caption placement
I am going to expose it as a standalone option for the photo page by itself, but it would be available sometime next week

I think I have slowly accumulated enough changes to make them public, so...
version 2.1.3 is out
Sidebar restricted to item related pages (album, photo, movie, etc)
Fixed issue with bottom border not applied to all instances of H1 tag

Thx, exif_gps and tagcloud are working again
Still i have a problem uploading a bunch of files, ie8 and ff3.6 are blocked and are not responding after a while. What can i do to isolate the reason for that?

@huebi: did not have time to look at it yet
@mtnbiker: I would suspect (Right) for prior photo and (Left) for next. Why Up/Dn? I would also consider Pg-Up for parent album... Another thing. Arrow keys by themselves are not very good because they are used to scroll active area in the browser when in scrollable mode. Different keys would be better, I would imagine.
@huebi: I have general problem with import from G2, I am not doing much of local import.
Problem with G2 import is not related to my theme but is very frustrating and inconsistent.
Upload I was not touching in a long time and it suppose to be isolated to core level, so theme should not affect it, but who knows.
You are welcomed to look around.

I've mentioned this before, but want to see if it can be resolved. Three kinds of albums exist, Album of Albums, Album of Photos, and Album of Photos and Albums. I'm on concerned with the first two.
Album of Albums: Title shows which is correct, Description shows below which is OK (below title better)
Album of Photos: Title is showing, instead of Description which in my case is the Caption which is what is wanted to show.
Is there a logic which can distinguish between the two first two album types?
If so MY_Theme_View.php could easily be changed to get Title showing in Album of Albums and Description in Album of Photos.
This is probably a G3 question, and not specific to GreyDragon, but thought I'd start here since the structure of GreyDragon is different than the default theme.

Several gallery sites use arrow keys. SmugMug use them in both their normal viewing page (with a sort of thumb navigator on the left) and after you've clicked on the photo. zenfolio.com also.
I changed up/down to just left/right before I saw your posting. But I've seen people using up/down I assume because it's like "down the page," but left and right make more sense to me and are common (neither SmugMug nor Zenfolio use up/down).
Definitely right for next (same as the nav arrow) unless I'm being dyslexic at the moment. Pg-Up makes sense, but don't seem to be commonly used that way.

Not sure about the last statement. You can move description for current album/photo to the top as well

No special logic. There is none on the item level. item is either album or individual photo. there is no AoA versus AoP.
What logic would you expect? or what would you do differently?

Structure is the same, I am not changing underlying logic, just presentation and allow some tuning.

While waiting for my plane, I have extended pagination control to have unique IDs for navigation buttons.
I have found implementation which simply adds a hook to these buttons to process key click for the page.
I am considering adding module, which would allow enable navigation keys to be associated with IDs above - special JS would be linked to the page in this case.
It is possible to allow key selection, but I do not know how much into options I want to go.
In this case what you would simply install the module to get functionality.
which puts the caption in which is imported with the photo.
Can G3 know whether it's an AoA or an AoP? If so an if-then-else could be written to select one or the other.
Screenshots: filename shows condition.
Are you saying there is no way to tell AoP from AoA? If so hard to see what can be done with G3. I'd have to relabel each photo.

@MtnBiker: yes, you can determine that by traversing all items in the current page. But it would be just it - current page. Based on the sorting, one page may have albums only, another both and third just photos.
I do not see distinct way to determine that current level contains just one type of items.
you could however use title or description based on bool value of item()->is_album() (I hope I remember it right)

Serge: Thank you an early birthday present. But it's not working for me yet. I tried in on Mac Safari and Firefox and Windows Explorer 6 and Firefox. One thing though, it might not hurt for me to wait a few hours as sometimes my server and caches seem to be slow to clear. I did activate the Keyboard Module and for the heck of it turned
Thumb Navigator on and off. Didn't toggle any other modules.

notice it is nothing to do with thumb navigator. but there is a new module - keyboard navigator - which you need to upload and activate.
the latest version of the theme is also required.
your browser (especially something like FF or similar) may still cache the page and you would need to force a reload.
in IE you can use Ctrl+F5 (Shift+Refresh in FF).
you also need to wait for FF/Chrome to load page in full since script is JS and is using jQuery's Page-ready event to activate.

Serge: v.2.1.5. Thank you. The keyboard shortcuts are working. And before my upcoming birthday. I don't know if the update fixed it or time. In rereading your original keyboard posting, I'm wondering if I missed the v2.1.4 upgrade.
If you're in the full-screen image mode, it drops down to the photo page instead of staying full screen. Don't know how difficult that would be to add. But at least now it does go to the next image.

there is no keyboard navigation within "full image" view. at least for now

Are you planning to give the thumbnails in carbon theme a shadow? In G2 its done by a table, dont know if its possible with CSS.
Not at this time, but if someone up to the task and suggest possible implementation I would consider integrating it.
Simpliest way would be to create background image for the thumb with shadow corners

By drops down, I meant that the full-screen (full image) view was a "higher level." Not concise English by any means. Maybe this is more concise: When you're in full-screen view and click the right arrow key, G3 goes to the next photo, but in the photo view, not the full-screen view that you were in.
Thanks for doing all the great development on this theme.

ok, Shadowbox does support sliding (going back and forward in the list of images)
there is extra information which need to be supplied for that which is not available at the moment for the page
I was thinking about this some time ago, and with development of thumb navigator and paginator I know how to get information needed.
it is just there too many possible nice things to do with no immediate benifits
I am doing some job research for California and it is taking a lot of time by itself, so I have less time to spare here.
I will see if I will find some time this weekend, but in general I am considering to slowdown on development at this stage. Theme is somewhat stable and now I am trying to do the work related to it when I am doing some research for my dev skills or sitting at the airport .

You mean a black thumbnail which is slightly bigger then a thumbnail having the shadow at the bottom and right edge which is overlayed by the thumbnail? In CSS with overlay?
We appreciate what you've done, you've been very responsive to our requests. And development would never stop on a project like this. And the pay stinks. It also makes sense to wait until G3 is released, because that will bring in a whole new bunch of users to one of the few good themes. Do what you can and want to. Enjoy California. But it's supposed to rain here Monday.

@huebi: (Note: applied only to fixed size (aspect) thumbs). Thumbnail slide (thing around actual image with borders) is fixed and includes fixed size and orientation image thumb.
right now I am using borders and slightly lighter background to highlight the area.
Instead it is possible to remove the borders and background and replace it with fixed size background image which would contain just border frame of your choice (i.e. for carbon colorpack it would be shadow simulation)
@MtnBiker: Thank you.
There is no pay, so it is pure fun driven ;)
as far as Cali, can't enjoy it much, I am in mid-west US. will be nice to resume enjoy it again though ;)

With respect to my post dated 2010-04-06 and others about getting Captions and Titles to show "correctly" in an Album of Albums (AoA) and Albums of Photos (AoP), here's what seems to be working.
In MY_Theme_View.php on approx. line 215 (one of the lines beginning $content is the original)
// to get AoP showing Caption (Description) and AoA showing Title
if ($item->is_album()):
$content .= '<strong>' . $this->bb2html(html::purify($item->title), 2) . '</strong>'; //Album of albums
else:
$content .= '<strong>' . $this->bb2html(html::purify($item->description), 2) . '</strong>'; // Album of Photos
endif;
I don't understand most of this PHP, but I fiddled with Serge's suggestion a bit and got it working.
Site. When G3 is final, the 3 will be dropped from the URL.
To save you having to read through my old posts, Aperture (Apple program) maps the caption to G3: Description and I want the Caption to show with the photo if it exists. And I want Title of albums to show with the albums. The problem is that G3 by default shows the Title in both places.
Thanks again Serge. This fix takes care of my biggest issue with G3 and GreyDragon.
I think GreyDragon should be included in the G3 distribution.

@MtnBiker: Great. I am glad it works for you. I am still not fully convinced on the application (my descriptions are quite long usually), but if we can get enough interest in the feature we could add it as an option.
GD in core distro? Wow I am flattered Thank you
I doubt however it would happen. My theme is too different from default logic and inclusion would means a commitment from G3 core team to my theme of some sort.
On the positive side - I have enabled counter for downloads I have posted and in last 2 days theme was downloaded 53 times! Cool. Thank you all for interest.
By comparison, GreyDragon Wind theme has been downloaded 19 times.
Doing some research I have found that GDW theme is actually more wide spread (may be due to the fact that people did not hide Site Credits for it) or sites using GD theme are not yet indexed by Google.
Anyway, I would like to thank everyone who is using my theme for staying with it.
And I am always glad to hear your suggestions.

Well, I would like to thank YOU for giving everyone an option from the default themes (not that there is anything wrong with them, just nice to be a little different).
My only wish would be a bit more testing with the shopping basket module, as it seems to mess up some of the formatting of the checkout process, but nothing that I couldnt hack a little code to make a bit better..
Another suggestion, and again, this is very minor, and its only a personal preference... I had to go in and change the navigation icons to the reverse of what they are now.... As it stood with the standard install, the arrows looked greyed out when they were available, and they were black when they were not... This is the reverse of what an average user would be used to. I just went in and reversed them in the css.
The only other thing I noticed was, as I mentioned to you in that other post, the fact that a newly created album could not be entered by IE, because there were no pictures in it... Again, not a big deal for me, because I use firefox, but it could possibly cause some other people grief..
Thanks again for the responsiveness!!

I could not possible test all 3rd party modules.
If you have adjustment for CSS to make basket fit in, please share, I would think many would benifit.

Which color pack? Wind? I have fixed it in last release and colors should be better now. Give it a try and let me know.
Carbon and main GD should be fine since they are dark colored.

As I mentioned in another post, it is fixed and would be available with next rollout. I would rather prefer that Core thumb generator would be able recognise that there are not highlights or size of the picture is incorrect (0x0) and display "broken image" thumb, but I just did it anyway.

Well, let me see if I can remember the changes I made LOL
Yes, I am using the wind color pack for greydragon
Keep in mind, I am NOT a programmer, and I do not know what most of the syntax and variables do.... I just know enough to look at what is there, and tinker with it until I get what I need.
I actually had to make the changes in the basket css.. When you would click on add to basket for the picture, it would bring up the screen where you chose the size and quantity you want... The dropdown arrow and the quantity box got cut off (Only in IE, firefox was fine)... So in the basket.css I had to change
Quote:
#basketForm {max-width:200px;float:left;}
to
Quote:
#basketForm {width: 100%; float:right;}
And then when you go to check out, and you select pay offline, the next screen that comes up is where you put in your address and whatnot on the left, and on the right there is some preformatted text you can enter in into the basket template.... The address fields flow a bit longer than the cell that they are in, and bleed over onto the right cell where the text is..

Obviously would cause problems with other themes, but I don't plan to change at this point.
http://knobby.ws/gallery3/Skiing/SanJacinto2010 is latest upload. Some of the other albums have been imported from G2, so may have different description/title importing.
Thanks for continuing to listen.

Hi Serge
I want to change the Font Weight from Bold to Normal. I modified the screen.css file and replaced bold with normal but it is still showing everthing in bold.

@huebi: have no idea, will check when back
@micrographics: it is not enough to remove bold style, you need to change how <strong> attribute is rendered - remove bold style. Check CSS docs for more details

Thx, exif_gps and tagcloud are working again
Still i have a problem uploading a bunch of files, ie8 and ff3.6 are blocked and are not responding after a while. What can i do to isolate the reason for that?

Great improvements.
Wishlist:
Arrow keys to navigate, that is, left arrow: previous photo, right arrow: next photo.

@mtnbiker:
Not sure about the last statement. You can move description for current album/photo to the top as well
No special logic. There is none on the item level. item is either album or individual photo. there is no AoA versus AoP.
What logic would you expect? or what would you do differently?
Elaborate please
Structure is the same, I am not changing underlying logic, just presentation and allow some tuning.

While waiting for my plane, I have extended pagination control to have unique IDs for navigation buttons.
I have found implementation which simply adds a hook to these buttons to process key click for the page.
I am considering adding module, which would allow enable navigation keys to be associated with IDs above - special JS would be linked to the page in this case.
It is possible to allow key selection, but I do not know how much into options I want to go.
In this case what you would simply install the module to get functionality.

In MY_Theme_View.php
$content .= '<strong>' . $this->bb2html(html::purify($item->title), 2) . '</strong>';
puts up the title which is fine on a AoA.
For AoP,
$content .= '<strong>' . $this->bb2html(html::purify($item->description), 2) . '</strong>';
which puts the caption in which is imported with the photo.

@mtnbiker: present for you - keyboard navigation and a new theme version
version 2.1.4:
Serge: Thank you an early birthday present. But it's not working for me yet. I tried in on Mac Safari and Firefox and Windows Explorer 6 and Firefox. One thing though, it might not hurt for me to wait a few hours as sometimes my server and caches seem to be slow to clear. I did activate the Keyboard Module and for the heck of it turned
Thumb Navigator on and off. Didn't toggle any other modules.
notice it is nothing to do with thumb navigator. but there is a new module - keyboard navigator - which you need to upload and activate.
the latest version of the theme is also required.
your browser (especially something like FF or similar) may still cache the page and you would need to force a reload.
in IE you can use Ctrl+F5 (Shift+Refresh in FF).
you also need to wait for FF/Chrome to load page in full since script is JS and is using jQuery's Page-ready event to activate.

version 2.1.5 is out

Serge: v.2.1.5. Thank you. The keyboard shortcuts are working. And before my upcoming birthday. I don't know if the update fixed it or time. In rereading your original keyboard posting, I'm wondering if I missed the v2.1.4 upgrade.
If you're in the full-screen image mode, it drops down to the photo page instead of staying full screen. Don't know how difficult that would be to add. But at least now it does go to the next image.
what do you mean by "drops down"?
there is no keyboard navigation within "full image" view. at least for now
Posts: 63
Are you planning to give the thumbnails in carbon theme a shadow? In G2 its done by a table, dont know if its possible with CSS.
http://reisetraeume.com
Posts: 2466
Not at this time, but if someone up to the task and suggest possible implementation I would consider integrating it.
Simpliest way would be to create background image for the thumb with shadow corners
Posts: 172

@MtnBiker: Thank you.

// to get AoP showing Caption (Description) and AoA showing Title
if ($item->is_album()):
$content .= '<strong>' . $this->bb2html(html::purify($item->title), 2) . '</strong>'; //Album of albums
else:
$content .= '<strong>' . $this->bb2html(html::purify($item->description), 2) . '</strong>'; // Album of Photos
endif;

@markmac:

So in the basket.css I had to change
to
And then when you go to check out, and you select pay offline, the next screen that comes up is where you put in your address and whatnot on the left, and on the right there is some preformatted text you can enter in into the basket template.... The address fields flow a bit longer than the cell that they are in, and bleed over onto the right cell where the text is..
in the basket.css I changed
to
Like I said, I am not sure that what I did is the CORRECT way to do it or not, but it seems to have given me the result I wanted.

Hey Serge,
One more bug to put on your list....
Using the wind theme colorpack, it somewhat messes up the java/flash uploader... It appears like this... Another not big issue, just a cosmetic thing.
Cheers!
